Social cohesion is a result of shared culture. This does not mean only a shared appreciation (that is knowledge and understanding) of national history, with its many colours of good and bad, and the arts, but a deeper sharing of assumptions about rights, responsibilities and relationships which underpin our laws and government. It is this last bit that politicians think can be slid over. With an influx of people groups with different assumptions about the three Rs, cultural fragmentation begins, and if not addressed results in tribalism of the worst kind: enclaves of the mind become enclaves of geography which are then defended by the occupants!

@@dagwould Spot on - cant believe England is changed forever - all really within one generation. Sadly the lesson is not learnt for Australia. What took decades to go from 15 to 18 million has now been replaced by 250,000 a year since 2004 which has seen the population shoot up to 26 million in a short time.Might sound funny to Brits considering the size of Australia but we simply do not have enough water to take on a big population. We also have a severe housing crisis with not enough dwellings to keep up with population growth - housing is well and truly out of reach now for younger folk. Add that to the fact we have record levels of ambulance ramping at hospitals currently and it shows its madness to keep this rate of an extra million every 4 years. Yet with recent election - the topic simply did not come up - Madness.

@@unusedsub3003 Oh its my ode mucker Rog. What a Fantastic comment as always👍 I've come to expect nothing less from you my mate. I thought I'd just give you a quick history lesson as you seem to be blaming the electorate for Margaret Thatcher becoming PM. I'm of course well aware that a man of your vast political knowledge will know everything I'm about to tell you. -James Callaghan preceded Margaret Thatcher -he was PM 1976-79 -Early in his time at number 10 he had to pass unpopular government cuts -He had the unions becoming more and more demanding -The Labour strikes 1978-79 which paralysed the NHS, refuse collections stopped along with other essential services -In 1979 his government was brought down by a vote of no confidence passed in the House of Commons. The last time that happened was 1924 Labour put Margaret Thatcher into power by making themselves unelectable and allowing the unions to run the country. It would have been the wrong vote to vote Labour in again after all that. Keep these fantastic comments coming my yt bestie 👍

Excellent comments. You highlighted the key disasters in a regime which has proved to be wholly catastrophic. Blair knowingly and deliberately sought to hide his damaging agenda behind the pretence of his ‘third way’ centrism. In reality, his policies have caused more division, unrest and disunity than at any time since 1945. Yet, sadly, he has been honoured with a knighthood and we still have to put up with his pontificating and his half truths, either directly through him or through his vile organisation, the Blair Institute for Global Change (ie for globalism and elitism).

@@trevormj Actually no. I hate him just as much as you do. I despise all politicians who are just in it for themselves. They care nothing for the people they are supposed to serve. I would go as far as to say that Boris Johnston cares for no one not even his own party. All he wants is to be known as the Prime Minister. I would say also that Blair is still the worst of the two. He started the UK split by introducing devolved government

I will say, you have nailed it. I'm an American and I can see what a horror show Tony Blair was. We have many of the same policies in the US and it's caused many problems, not only for the US but for other countries where their best and brightest have been hollowed out in a mad dash to the US.

Would be really interesting for a deep dive on this sort of thing to see if there were any extra-national interests driving Blair's policies (especially the University education for all aspect) and where, if any, those influences were coming from.

A very accurate analysis of the Blair years by Colin Brazier. I served for 25 years as a Labour Councillor on Merseyside and recall the genuine hope that an incoming Labour government would add to the legacy of Harold Wilson, who looked after all sections of society. See the 1974 health and safety act, and 1976 Employment Act that provided fairness and safety at work. And still remain relevant today. One omission from Colin's exposé was the labour decision to dismantle Council housing. My own council closed numerous housing offices that enabled people to directly apply for transfers, new tenancies, and repairs. The new policy of housing trusts never replaced those services. I never saw rough sleepers on the scale it is now during the Major/Thatcher years. Its ironic that many who complain about this, and the Care crisis are part of the party that aggravated the problems that beset society today. A question the media never asks is that the absence of capitol funding for major infrastructure projects in the labour years, has created the need to level up parts of the UK. In 2005, Labour abandoned plans for 3 separate Tram schemes on Mersey side, after requesting the local transport body to draw up a Business case for each scheme. How the Tories never pick up on this is a mystery. Given they now fund city mayors. While Thatcher unwisely privatised water, gas, and electricity. She never privatised Council services, that legacy belongs to the Blair government.

You forgot to mention one part of Blairs regime that has profound cultural changes. Traffic wardens and the endless fine culture. All those hi viz vests trying their best to fine for some petty infringement as normal people try to about their lawful endeavours. The conservatives have done nothing to stop all the fines either. We need a new political party that puts Brits first.
