Colin Farrell and Hugh Grant Like That They’re Not as Famous as They Used to Be

Colin Farrell and Hugh Grant bonded over the fact that, as they’ve gotten older, they’ve been more left alone. The two discussed their privacy during Season 5 of Variety and PBS’ “Actors on Actors.”
“It all went mad so fast for me. I had a period of maybe five or six years of incredible fame and recognizability,” Farrell told Grant.”I’m glad that period of madness is over for me and my life.”
He added, “Social media I don’t have, and I feel very outside of it.”
Grant replied, “I’m in the same kind of boat. I’m more left alone which I was, which is absolutely delightful.”
The interview will air in its entirety on Variety’s “Actors on Actors” Season 5, presented by The Venetian Las Vegas, which debuts on PBS SoCal on Jan. 3.

We have a good educational system here in Ireland. English syllabus at my time in secondary school had us studying everything from the great Irish poets, to learning Shakespeare and BryceShelly and Keats. I even remember the Canterbury tales in one of my poetry books for leaving cert (final exams before third level).

Farrell is from an educated/cultured Irish background & he is typically smart, I'm Irish & would expect almost everyone from that to be same, so, for instance, way ahead of a similar American. Did not like him or see the quality until In Bruges, a Classic upon release (very rare). Side note on Grant, another actor I just did not like at all until he was Top Gear guest & saw he is clearly smarter, more objective, than most.

It also helps when your stardom can’t rescue a bad film or, to some, a pretentious or arty film. Not that these are bad films, that’s not the point. But studio execs need their films to make money, and will ride the wave of the stars who are in the public eye from the most recent blockbuster. These guys have experienced first hand that fame can be fleeting and are looking for balance both professionally and in life. They know they are lucky enough to have choices but have to work hard to keep having that choice. That makes them relatable, always a nice quality for anyone to have.

@@Cycloneon 🤣 That is not at all how I interpreted Joseph Carl’s comment. I think what he was inferring was that it was a lovely gentlemanly conversation, one that you’d expect to see in the den at someone’s home, and a scotch, which is a drink often enjoyed by gentlemen would not be amiss. But that was my interpretation of the comment.

I knew someone who was an actor and he wanted us to watch everything he was in so we could see how good his performance was regardless if we were entertained or not, most of his roles were the independent dramatic roles only cinephiles would love, my sister just got angry at him in the end and said "You may be proud of your work but I am bored and uninterested". It is so true about actors, many don't realise that most audiences just want to be entertained and aren't really bothered by the actors ability to act or if they might win a Oscar.
