Kap's unique and misunderstood as far as quarterbacks go because his strengths are different to what other big names like Brees and Brady bring to the table. It's great that he's got those strengths because he can improve on his shortcomings like touch sooner than someone else can match his run ability or arm strength. He's only entering his fourth season as a starter and he's 25 - 14 and that's after a poor showing last year. I think it's pretty naive to think he's got no more room for improvement.

But in those 3 years he has shown little improvement and will not learn from his mistakes. Kap is good at running but he is not patient enough to stay in the pocket and trust his receivers to get open. He just runs or try's to force the ball down the field at the first sign of trouble. The only quarter back that has master scrambling is Arron Rogers and he doesn't scramble until he has no other choice.

The Niners pass protection isn't very good. Staley is obviously great but the protection on Kap could be a lot better. It's hard to be patient when there is no time and if you just throw quick passes you get picked. Kap has a very good record for a young quarterback. I think he will show improvement under the new system.

All these Niner fans are hating on Kaepernick but he is a great QB. Glad he is the starter for the Niners. He puts in the hard work and tries his best and doesn't give up no matter what people say. And a just as fast expected fall from the NFL. This guy doesn't have what it takes. Nothing about him speaks "elite" status. Not even "good". All his numbers are average to below average. He can't go through his reads and he can't throw guys open. He has no touch on his passes and his footwork is sloppy. Not sure how much Kurt Warner can help this kid, but I still see a 3000 yard, 20 TD and 10 INT QB. Not bad, but definitely not elite. 4000 yards, 33 TDs and 9 INTs are numbers that Brady just put up. Thats elite.

Not sure what 13 TDs and 1 less INT does for you, but thats more than just "not far behind" for me. Thats a lot behind. He rushed for 639 yards and 1 TD last year. He's working with Warner to help his technique, footwork and reads so what makes you think he'll get 800 and 7 this season? More like 400 and maybe 2 TDs.

Shakester71 Last year the coaching staff tried to make Kaepernick something he is not. This year they've even said that they are going to play to his strengths, which means he will probably run a lot. Also last year was a terrible year for the offense in general he was the most sacked quarterback in the NFL. This offseason the 49er acquired a wide receiver who is a deep threat. Last time the 49ers had a deep threat, they went to the superbowl.

And thats where I'd have a problem with it. Which running QBs are succeeding in the NFL? RG3? Tim Tebow? Johnny Manziel? Cam Newton? Geno Smith? The truth is, running QBs were a hot commodity that wore out fast. In order to succeed in the NFL as a QB, they'll have to sit in the pocket and go through reads which is something Kaepernick can't do or at least shown that he can't do. And the last time they went to a Super Bowl, Alex Smith played half a season.

Shakester71 Alex Smith may have played half the season, but the offense was far more explosive when kaepernick took over and the stats from that year proved it. I doubt Alex Smith would have put up 31 points against the Ravens. You're ignorant to say Kaepernick can't sit in the pocket and go through reads because if he couldn't he would have 0 success in the NFL. Just because he's a running quarterback doesn't mean he'll run all the time. Russell Wilson seems to be having success with the seahawks.
