I remember playing that game as a kid on PC, the graphics looked so realistic for me back then. And they still hold up pretty well.

PSP was such a great machine and underappreciated. It was almost perfectly between PS1 and PS2 visually.

I prefer the PSP version bc I can play it on my Vita, transfer my save to my PC or Nvidia Shield TV, and continue my progress on PPSSPP. The game actually looks pretty nice, especially with some bloom, natural colors, and color grading. The game runs at 60 fps by simply raising the CPU clock speed to 666 MHz. For those who don't know, there's a bug in the game that makes your car go slower when steering with the analog stick. To actually do well in the rally events, you have to hold the hard steer button THE WHOLE TIME while using the d-pad to steer. Conveniently PPSSPP lets me map the hard steer button to the d-pad steer buttons, eliminating that little annoyance.

One of the reasons the Xbox version looks sharper than the ps2 version is because is because the Xbox can run the game in progressive scan (480p/720p, assuming the footage is ran via component cables) while the ps2 version only runs at 576i (interlaced) since it's PAL which makes the game look a lot blurrier. Aside from that Xbox has some motion blur and better processing effect with more detailled damage particles and models, PS2 and PSP versions you only get a bit of that. Still a very good rally driving game 🔥
