@@Jaychewie At the rate that I was doing reviews at that time I would have surpassed my 100th by now, but I've only done four reviews in the past two and a half years as I've been working a lot, but I have a bit of free time at the moment and I'm trying to get back into it.

A fair review. Looking back I think this is the least celebrated Colin McRae game. One thing I do like about this is the visuals. The environments and cars look fantastic. Codemasters always were ahead with visuals. I spent my childhood playing the WRC games on PS2 and missed out on the CMR series. Upon revisiting WRC 2 Extreme recently, it surprised me how bland and dreary the colour pallet looked even for stages in warmer climates. CMR3 looks fairly decent in comparison. Looking forward to purchasing the CMR games I missed out on.

I think the CMR series has got the best visuals out of all the rally games in the sixth generation.

@@MontegoReviews I have to argue that WRC 04 and Rally Evolved are also very good. While Rallisport Challenge excels at sceneries and draw distances.

Finally someone who actually mentions the issue with steering physics. I tried getting back to 2.0 and 3, but in both cases the center pivot made the experience a lot less fun when compared to modern rally games. Regardless, thanks for making these modern retrospectives on all of these old racing games.

Thanks. Other Codemasters games had the same issue such as the TOCA games from the first one to TOCA Race Driver.

@@MontegoReviews Thanks for the heads up. I was going to get them as well after playing Colin McRae Rally 04 and 2005. Will start with TOCA Race Driver 2 in that case.

The Center pivot is much worst in CMR3 relative to CMR2. You are very wrong there.

CMR2 has better handling than CMR3 and CMR5.

I love the first Colin McRae Rally snd and play it often just cause it didn't include a track you like it was a great PS1 game. And i love CMR3 . The handling is challenging unlike other Rally games like Rallisport Challenge 3 which has a more laid back feel. This game makes you stay more focused on the driving. And i liked all the little details like the brakes lightning up, gravel flying in the air and damage. The non Rally cars are fun to drive but most are useless like the Lancia is pretty much undrivable. You have to get the Codebreaker Redline cheat disc to unlock everything for it to totally enjoy it though

No no.. cmr 3 is so easy, I can play that game with a ps controller. Cmr 2005, naw that's difficult.

I agree with the low score on the game, but for a different reason. Personally I like the Physics, but I already liked them in CMR 2.0, even though I always knew that it is far from realistic. For me the reason is that I do mind it a lot that the game forces you to use the Focus for the Championship mode. Would I use it most of the time anyway? Yeah, because like you I do like the car a lot, but I do want to be able to try the Championship with something else if I want. But in general I feel like the PS2 WRC games and Rallisport Challenge on the XBox really outclassed the game at the time. WRC was way better as a realistic Rally game (and to this day my favorite Rally Game Franchise) and Rallisport Challenge probably appealed way more to the Arcade crowd. CMR 3 really feels like a bad game compared to the competition it had at the time. CMR 04 and 2005 where really solid though.

Sorry. I've only just seen the second half of your comment. I agree. I don't think Codemasters knew what they wanted to do with CMR 3 and that's why the physics are so bad. It's not an arcade game, but it's also not a simulator. It kind of in the middle, but not in a good way like a simcade. I have the same issue with TOCA Race Driver which probably used the same physics engine.

A massive difference is the increased draw distance better details than ssx tricky and cmr 2.0 good music at all

Even though i don't agree with the score, i can totally see why you scored it that. i'm guessing this is from the perspective of someone who started with playing the DiRT games. because the CMR games and the DiRT games have a weird split in muscle memory which make it so that if you play the original CMR games, then it makes it much harder to play the DiRT games, with the same principle applying the other way around. There's nothing wrong with that, but i feel like it's very easy to notice.

No he is just not a versatile player, I evovled from CMR 5 to DiRT series all the way to DiRT Rally 2.0 without any issue at all and got used to them without a single problem. Current gen "gamers" are just much inferior.

How do you get the bonus vechiles for example the tank and the van? They look really interesting and I would love to try them out.

You have to win the Sweden rally on the very hard difficulty to get the Ford Transit Replica Rally Van, and I think the tank is only unlockable with cheats. As it's an obscure vehicle that is in the game, I had to talk about it which meant using a cheat disc.

This is why ssx tricky sucked soo much retrospectively and has less details on graphics but cmr3 has better graphics and is a better game than ever along with ssx 3 and fallout 3
