Cheat codes in the mid/late 90s were definitely something else. They were actually fun and crazy. Remember being able to drive a wood box and literally every prop you cold see in NFS II

There also two other versions of Colin McRae Rally 1. The American version (on PS1 NTSC or PC) , which replaced Colin McRae's iconic 1997-1998 Subaru Impreza WRC, with the Subaru Impreza WRC from 1999 and 2000 (car with stripes and stars) of Juha Kankkunen and Richard Burns. The american version also renamed all other real WRC drivers to fictional ones, as in the sequels. The american PS1 NTSC and PC version also lacks the Renault Megane Maxi. In 2003-2004 there was also a re-release exclusive of Colin McRae Rally on the ps1 in a 'Codemasters Bestsellers Edition' , which replaced again Colin McRae's Subaru Impreza WRC with the road car inspired Subaru Impreza 22B (complete blue without decals and sponsors). This bestsellers version still has the original WRC drivers. All re-released CMR versions since the value series version renamed Rallye Monte Carlo in Rallye Austria. The ps1 platinum still has Rallye Monte Carlo as name. On the PC version the patches since version 1.2 changed the name of Rallye Monte Carlo. The PC and ps1 version also differents on graphic quality. Biggest change is the look of the cockpits of the cars and the drivers suit. On the PC version the drivers suit is sponsored by OMP. On ps1 version it's generic. Also the Subaru driver on pc version has red driver gloves, while on ps1 version it's blue-yellow like the car itself. Toyota Corolla Driver for example also has in pc version black driver gloves, ps1 version green. One other things that's to the second game related, all re-releases of CMR 2.0 (PS1 Platinum and PC re-releases such as bestsellers edition, budget version) replaced Colin McRae's Iconic Subaru Impreza WRC from (1997-1998) with the car from Toshi Arai with Spike livery from 2000. This car was also seen later in Colin McRae Rally 3 as bonus car. Yeah, its many information. But this comes from playing the first two CMR games since over 20 years, and I still love the two original Colin McRae Rallye games. For me the best rallye games of all time. I still have all these original copys of CMR 1 and 2. I bought them all over back in the 2000's. These games were a big part of my childhood. DIRT Rally 2.0 is also good. Especially cause of the Colin McRae Content. 😊👍
@cheesyeurotrance954 жыл бұрын
thanks for sharing this info, and I agree about you, the first two CMR games are the best, same can be said for the first 3 TOCA games, Codemasters were at their peak during the PS1 era IMO.
@commander981234 жыл бұрын
@@cheesyeurotrance95 @Trance 188 Couldn't agree more with you. After Colin McRae Rally 2.0 and TOCA World Touring Cars, Codemasters games were starting to disappoint. Especially Colin McRae Rally 3 and TOCA Race Driver 1 were bad. TOCA 1&2 are for me still the best of the TOCA/Grid series. TOCA (3) WTC is also good, but it lacks the real BTCC license. But still all cars from the the first two games were still in. But like I said without the BTCC license. Unfortunately this game is/was first a PS1 exclusive, which was later also make for GBA. A PC version never happened.

Fun fact: The cheat code HOVERCRAFT which lets the car float is called in european/german version DELOREAN.

Not correct. The cheat for the flying car was not for the German version, but the cheat code of the PC version. On PS1 it was hovercraft. On PC it was like I said delorean.

- Toyota Celica GT4 ST205 WRC: Hmmmmm, it's sports the CASTROL TTE factory works paint scheme, and I see a Belgian flag at the roof scoop, and wears No. 9. My hunch, that it's driven by Renaud Verreydt (1995, 1996). Only in Belgian rallies & select ERC rallies. Sadly, not much on WRC. - MileHigh Parc - Definitely NOT for acrophobics. - Trout Heights - One does not simply, imagine how a 2 car duel race (EXPERT difficulty, with even car specs) would result like.

I remember playing before using some of the cheats in the game. As far that I know, Trout Heights was the longest SSS in the entire game, despite being fictional. I mean, the uphill in the lane 2 is what makes longer this track. Also, did you try before the UFO easter egg in this game? I think should be worked in the PC version, but I remember doing that in the PS1 version.
@cheesyeurotrance957 жыл бұрын
Trout Heights is such a bizarre track, those Peugeot 205s going up and down the mountain are creepy. I'm not sure if the UFO easter egg works in the PC version, but I watched some videos about it from the PS1 version, funny thing indeed :)

Game devs in the 90s just didn't care, they did all the drugs and *then* created content and would just leave it all in the game lol. One of the most obscure ones that I've not seen much discussion on are the seemingly random hidden keys/objects/out of bounds areas in Army Men 3D's 2-player deathmatch mode. For whatever reason, someone on that dev team put some secrets/easter eggs in there that are so esoteric that AFAIK they're either outright not finished, or haven't been figured out yet. What made these things stick with me so many years after randomly happening across them is how most of them you would only ever find by deliberately going out of your way to notice them, and would never see them in normal gameplay (at least from what my 20+ year old memories are telling me lol.) Why did I type all this out on a video that has nothing to do with it? Well I'm high as a kite and it's somewhat tangentially related (most of these bonus levels are batshit insane and look like a drug-induced psychosis, a level of surreality that was very common with games of the era) but also I wonder what are the odds that someone who actually has seen what the hell I was talking about, and would reply affirming thus
