Patrick Mahomes picked up his third Super Bowl win in five seasons (and his entire career) as the Kansas City Chiefs came back from a 10-point deficit to defeat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in OT. Colin Cowherd warns the rest of the league on why they should be discouraged: this season is the year to beat a "lesser" Chiefs team. Brock Purdy finished with 255 yards, a touchdown and an 89.3 passer rating in the 49ers loss. Colin explains why the Super Bowl loss proved Purdy is good but not "special."

I am a Ravens fan, but I have to acknowledge greatness. What is incredible about Mahomes' run this season: The Chiefs did not have a 1000 yard receiver/tight end. The Chiefs did not have a 1000 yard running back. The Chiefs' offensive line lead the league in penalties. The right tackle, Jaawan James, led the league in penalties. The Chiefs' wide receivers led the league in drops. The Chiefs went 5-5 in their last ten regular season games. Mahomes beat the number 1 and 2 seeds on the road to get to the Super Bowl. Mahomes beat the NFC's 1 seed in the Super Bowl. The Bills, Ravens, and 49ers were all ranked in the top 10 in defense and offense this year. Mahomes faced 4 players who finished top 5 in the MVP voting, including the winner. Mahomes became the first player to in NFL history to have 3 double digits deficits in the Super Bowl and win. He threw a game winning touchdown in overtime to win; Brady is the only other player in league history to do that. Mahomes won his 3rd Super Bowl MVP by the age of 28 becoming the first to do that. Mahomes is now 15-3 in the playoffs after 6 years, only trailing Montana and Brady in playoff wins. Mahomes is now 1 in playoff history in Td's, winning percentage, and total yards per game; 8-2 win trailing by 7 or more in the playoffs. He isn't the Goat yet, but he is doing crazy stuff.

This is possibly the greatest comment I've ever read about Patrick Mahomes. The fact that it is coming from a Raven's fan makes it all the more meaningful. Thank you for aknowledging Mahomes' greatness and all the chips stacked against him this season. The craziest stat for Mahomes imo is that he's two overtime losses away from making the SB EVERY year of his career as a starter. What a time to be a Chiefs fan. We've had some heartbreaking years, decades. I hope we don't see you guys in the playoffs again next season. Ya'll have a great team.

People know very little about football. The Chiefs corners are legit. They blanketed Deebo and Aiyuk all game. Purdy had very little opportunity to pass. Mahomes also couldn’t pass at all. The 49ers just stopped running the ball during the 3. quarter and also when it mattered most. Instead of running it home, they decided to let Purdy pass the ball at the very end of the game. That gave Mahomes the ball back in the last 2 minutes during regular time and it cost them the necessary touchdown in OT.

In season hindsight, the mid-year blip in the Chiefs' performance was the forging of this win. For far too long, KC had to use the long ball to win games; with the passing game disappearing because clowns could not catch the ball, the team got to find a running attack that they could use as needed to take pressure off of Patrick. And when Patrick was needed, the players were able to catch the ball. And it is so great that the player discarded, Mecole, was brought back after the Jets had no clue what they had in him. Management in KC is amazing at being able to add pieces to the puzzle and the game winner was the piece added taking another teams' trash and turning it into a Snoopy Bowl diamond. The 49ers had their chances. They blew it. KC had players that were battle tested and pieces were forged to handle just about anything that was needed. And the two top forces of coaching were the most adaptable in changing the mojo of KC - Reid and Spags. No other team makes so many half time adjustments or getting their guys to refocus. Hats off to KC. I hope the 49ers learn that being good for part of the game is not enough. You have to be great to win when it counts.

Why is CMC getting 0 flack for fumbling the ball on the first drive and Purdy's sputtering 3rd quarter is the reason they lost? Purdy commentary continues to not make sense. Mahomes sputtered the entire game until they got gifted the ball inside the 20 after muffed punt. He wasn't processing - he was flustered, in a way we don't normally see. The pitch to Pacheco was bad - he threw a pick right after that. Mahomes is a legend and he ended the game in a legendary way - but Purdy did everything that was needed to win. 9ers defense played great but one stop and they win the SuperBowl - that's not Purdy's fault

This experienced backend got beat up a lot, Warner got gased by Kelce on a mesh concept, and Kyle had to call a TO because Wilks was gonna come with another 6 man pressure and having 5 deep. The defence was good early but, when they NEEDED to step up in the big moments they didn’t. Kyle and the offence went the entire field to score first in OT. It came down to the D and they couldn’t get it done. Anyone who says this loss is on Kyle or Purdy or the offence is just nuts. Mahommes and Reid and Kelce are just too good and San Frans D couldn’t stop them. It’s that simple

If you're a QB on a loaded roster like that and you struggle to get it to your stars, you are not the guy. McCaffery had 160 yards total. He and Jennings did all the damage, Purdy didn't have a pass go for more than 24 yards, and he couldn't get Kittle, Aiyuk, or Debo going. Mahomes, against a better defense, got his star Receiver going and managed to get a chunk play with lesser pieces. Purdy's a good QB with special pieces, but the NFL analysts and fans misread the performance with star pieces and made it about Purdy being the star because he outplayed Jimmy G instead of being an upgrade at QB. Jimmy G fell apart with the Raiders, but it doesn't mean we should ignore that the pieces were still star caliber players with star caliber production before Purdy started.

I told my brother (another 49ers fan) that the 49ers need to score 35 points to win the Super Bowl. But, if the Chiefs keep the game close, THEN THEY WILL LOSE TO THE CHIEFS!! Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson... only Burrow has been able to beat the Chiefs in the playoffs, only to lose to the Rams in the Super Bowl. I think Purdy has just as good of a chance to win a ring as any of those three, even though he doesn't "look the part". The kid is smart and he can execute well. Yesterday was a game of defenses, and both quarterbacks did what they could to make it to overtime. Purdy was good enough for a field goal on their possession. Mahomes was Mahomes, and he won them the game. I'm just saying, If you're going to write off Purdy, do the same with Burrow, Allen and Lamar, no matter how special they may look. They've been around longer and still haven't hoisted the Lombardi. Purdy has only been here two seasons. Be fair and cut the kid some slack.

You can see the difference between Purdy and Mahomes in overtime, on the third down before SF kicked the field goal, Kittle was briefly open underneath as Purdy threw the ball away, I think Mahomes would have seen him and would have gotten either a first down or a touchdown.

I understand that this show is more about theatrics and fluff rather than substance BUT. The true heroes for the Chief's team, who actually won the game, after the Mahomes led Offense, in the first half, went 5xpunt and a fumble were Special Teams and their D. On what planet was little Patty's effort even acceptable Colin? Those Chiefs CBs flew around the field and #95, who also helped stifle the 9ers Offense at every turn dominated. The Chiefs Special Teams blocking the extra point and forcing OT was special. Then the turning point of the game was the muffed punt recovery which allowed little Patty to go play glory ball. Purdy played very well and there was no shame in being out played by that crew! Mahomes actually played poorly; how he got MVP is anyone's guess! The Chiefs Special Teams and Defence won that game and that's where your praise belongs. Half a Billion Dollar Patty threw a 10 yard pass to an open WR to cliché the win. How many QBs in the League could have thrown that?!?! Not as fancy as your portrayal but accurate...

Colin's take here is terribly bad. I'm going to start with this. If Purdy had Andy Reid calling the plays at the end of the game, they win. Purdy is really good, and had Kyle Shanahan had a better script for the obvious blitz plays, 9ers easily win this game. There needed to be Plan B play calls for hot routes should the blitz be coming through. Kyle failed to run those plays so that the 9ers could win. They needed some backyard ball type plays to throw the Chiefs defense off of their obvious blitz packages. That said, the false starts and the line letting free runners is again on Kyle and the O-line for looking really bad at times.

I can’t stand football because of the media! There is so much more to the sport than the quarterback and the media will not get off of it!
