Buckeye QB Will Howard is probably the happiest player on that team. In one year since her transferred to Ohio State he managed to 1) Take revenge on Penn State since they did not recruit him as a Pennsylvania native 2) Defeat two SEC teams including Texas, whom he could not beat in 4 tries at Kansas State 3) Defeat #1 team Oregon at the Rose Bowl, decisively 4) Win a National Championship and 5) Sharpen and expand his QB skills at the highest levels against powerful teams, preparing himself to a career in the NFL

One detailed look at NIL shows the absurdity of all the talk about Ohio State buying a team: Texas 22 million. Ohio State 20 million. Georgia 19 million. For the past few weeks, all we hear is Ohio State NIL. The talk got most intense prior to, during and after the Texas game, without a mention that Texas pays more in NIL than Ohio State does. The AVERAGE SEC school pays 30% MORE in NIL than the average Big Ten team. Even at the top we see this, but Georgia and Texas averaging 20.5 million. At some point it might be nice to hear about the NIL plague without mentioning Ohio State, where they were slow to jump on the NIL bandwagon, but were essentially dragged into it by reality checking.

In 1998, they were #1 from preseason to November 7, were 8-0 and beating teams by the average score of 38-9. They were up 24-9 in the 3rd quarter against Nick Saban's Michigan St team and lost 28-24. They won their next 2 games by the average score of 38-12 but finished #3 in the polls behind Florida St. Won the Sugar Bowl 24-14 to finish 11-1 with every win by double digits.

After Ohio State went up 28-7 Chip Kelly took his foot off the gas completely. Howard threw 7 passes in the second half!! After starting the game 13-13. I hated the majority of the second half because it looked like we had no interest in blowing out ND. ND is tough and I give them credit for fighting, but that's not a close game if Chip just keeps calling the game like he did up until we took the 28-7 lead to start the second half. We werent pushing the ball down field anymore and he went back to the basic zone block run scheme that doesn't work. I can't complain that much because we won and the Buckeyes are back on top, but man that was annoying to watch for the majority of the second half.

Just mind boggling having watched all year and suddenly they get away from who they are. Run game too, with two STUDS and they barely trusted that. Clearly coaching scared of Riot St and Irish Breakdown has done a stellar job highlighting opportunities that were there following that first strong drive. D line injuries though (which almost cost the PSU game) were obvious and ND did not get the pressure it was able to most of the year. Even with all that they caught fire and just needed a bit more time since they wasted two first half drives.
