Jeff Benedict, author of 'The Dynasty,' joins Colin Cowherd to discuss his book and how it compares to Apple TV's documentary 'Dynasty.' He dives into how the New England Patriots dynasty compares to other football ones, along with when the Bill Belichick-Robert Kraft relationship began to diminish. Benedict also discusses the Malcolm Butler benching, the Aaron Hernandez fiasco and more.

The story is there but no one wants to report it. Two friends are local sports reporters, who do free lance national work. They have colleague and classmates that work for all the Boston sports teams. Malcolm Butler ranked 12th out of 64 starting DBs his first year. The year of the Eagles Super Bowl he dropped all the way down to 48 out of 64. He wanted a contract extension was showing the behavior that left him going undrafted. The week of the Super Bowl Malcolm Butler said he may give his best during the Super Bowl if he didn't get a contract. After a season's worth of poor behavior and then threatening to throw the Super Bowl they benched him. His first year with the Titans Butler finished DEAD LAST, 64 out of 64 in the NFL.

@HawgWyldFishing
@HawgWyldFishing 2 ай бұрын
Snookered is a term from the billiards game, Snooker. Which more or less means that you have given your opponent a nearly impossible shot to make, by hiding the object ball from the cue ball, by placing another ball between the two. So your opponent has no safe way to take a shot at the object ball straight on. Essentially forcing them to take a safer shot, that has a much higher chance of leaving you with an easy straight shot and an opportunity to make multiple shots in a row.

People criticize Tom for that last Patriots Super Bowl he was going against Aaron Donald and Suh as well as a bunch of other veteran studs! He didn't play great I'm a Brady apologist but I can admit that but he did what he had to do to win the game. However that Patriot defense that won them the Super Bowl easily could have lost them the game against Mahomes but Brady went score for score with Patrick to get them to that Super Bowl that the defense won for them So you don't take away anything from Brady or the defense because it's a team game and sometimes your balanced and when and sometimes one carries the other.

Insightful. If you want excellence you have to push it to the limit. TB12 gave his heart and soul. And it’s only fair to expect everyone to do the same. I will say this. He didn’t retire because he couldn’t play. He retired because the divorce was hurtful. What I wish? That TB12 heals and comes back for 8 then retire. Not even Jordan could do that. I would give anything to see that happen. I very much appreciate the impact he’s had for the sport and in New England.

I don't get why people are not more outraged about learning that the entire Patriots organization (owner, players and coaching staff) are convinced that the Head Coach practically lost a SuperBowl on purpose just to get-off during one of his many power trips. To me, this is just as serious as gambling on yourself to lose or dropping a fight in boxing. This explains why 2017 Belichick was going out to music concerts with his wife on SB week. ONE TEAM requested to interview him, then quickly moved on and went in the other direction... and that's it, end of list lol so either it's a "hit piece" or it's just reflecting/contextualizing the reality that everybody gets passed by eventually and the NFL recognized that it clearly happened to Bill

Note it's the reason they did not win as first ever 3 SB wins in a row (and 4 out 5) along with Tom Brady trying to comeback passing for over 500 yards from that awful defense that went against Philly that game. Bill owed him a great defense against the Rams the next year. By the way one disagreement with the author is Tom's worst Super Bowl was the second one with the Giants where he spotted them 9 Points at the beginning of the game with an errand 2 Pt safety and subsequent touchdown due to the great field position he put them in. Other than that the Super Bowl trophy should be named after Tom Brady for what he has down for the game!

Bill Belichick not explaining Butler’s benching & Pete Carroll not explaining that passing on 2nd down maximizes the number of plays they has to get in the end zone alienated players who felt they had a right to know why those decisions were made. IMHO they did have a right to know.

The 2017 pats team was actually the best team of the 2010s they had. They shoulda won that game vs the eagle. I didn’t like how the doc made Bill look like a bad guy. But he is the reason that Tom left. Kraft shoulda moved on from Bill after 2019.

Hard to know what Bill knew about Aaron Hernandez before drafting him. I've see reports that some other teams removed Hernandez from their draft boards because of what they knew about him.
@ppumpkin3282

Bill was always a "bottom fisher" in the draft. Always looking for a player that was discounted by other teams for some reason that he could get with a lower pick than his value. Gronk was underestimated by other teams because he was injured most of his college career. But Bill had a vision of two tight ends who could block and catch. He then could have an offense that could block heavy with a running game, including his usual full back, or they could pass. Keeps defenses on edge. Many teams now are still trying to emulate it, but its hard to find two good TE's that can block and catch. Belichick was a genius, but he never appreciated how much Brady made his system work.

The 2017 Patriots had an atrocious defense. They were terrible with Malcolm Butler playing 97% of the snaps. I can't believe this is still a thing. The Eagles were missing their QB1, all pro OT, and starting MLB, by the way.

@@marcuscastillo514 oh I agree. He goes there they open out the gate that year and struggled to a 7-5 start at the bye he goes off on everyone demands some of his offense gets injected into the game plan and they don't lose again the rest of that yr winning the Superbowl against Mahomes and the Chiefs. Did nothing except separate himself from Belichick by doing that and then retires after 3 seasons in Tampa with a winning record overall 2 division titles back to back 3 playoff appearances and a Superbowl win over his heir apparent. Hard to end a 23 yr career any better than that. They really oughtta do away with the 5 yr wait period go ahead and enshrine him and give him his own wing by himself far as I'm concerned.

Sad thing is Tampa was in perfect position to go back to back they were better in 2021 but it all fell apart in that Saints shut game “knee gate” as I call it Godwin went out for the season on dirty hit which setup AB feeling like he had all the leverage and then T Wirfs went down and they were still a broken play from beating Rams
