The Xbox Games Showcase 2024 is soon upon us meaning it's time to unite with Xbox Two for our annual predictions show! Joining us is Rand Al Thor 19 to dissect what feels like another "must win" situation for Xbox. As per usual, we run down the multitude of first party studios, now including Activision, and debate heavily what will make the cut. Will they renew their vows with hardware? Can Xbox manage to massage concerns surrounding some of their lingering games like Perfect Dark and State Of Decay 3? What surprises can they bring to the table?

Here is my crazy but technically possible prediction: 343 announces that the multiplayer for Halo 2 is being ported into Halo Infinite's engine to be included with Halo Infinite multiplayer on the 20th anniversary of Halo 2 this fall. (There was an official Microsoft survey at the end of last year that asked about this exact thing)

It was a very specific survey question: "Imagine having a classic Halo multiplayer experience (eg., Halo CE, Halo 2, or Halo 3), that retained the settings, sandbox items, maps, modes, and overall feel from that classic title but built in Halo Infinite. This would mean offering the best of a classic Halo multiplayer experience, that would also benefit from more modern quality-of-lie improvements, updated visuals, and be part of Halo Infinite's progression and customization systems. How interested would you be.." Would be so cool (I just assume they would do H2 first because of the Anniversary).

The issue with Game Pass is it’s going to take time for that needle to move. They want immediate jumps where people come to Game Pass to play the game. That’s not how it works. When your first starting out of subscription service they need to be prepared to simply wait. They need to let it trickle in over time. Let the base grow. Let people get familiar with the service And then they will come to it, but you have to take your time. It’s not going to blow up overnight didn’t blow up overnight time for them to get their ducks in a row. It took time for the service to grow into what it is today. We forget Netflix functioned at a loss profit wise for years. They weren’t just born making money. Microsoft needs to see this for what it is and investment. They can’t expect the video game market to literally change overnight. If they don’t set expectations reasonably they are doomed to failure.

Last year's Xbox showcase had more viewers than Summer Gamefest and this year's should be even bigger now that they have Activision-Blizzard games to show off, so I don't know why a 3rd party publisher would find the Summer Gamefest more desirable place than Microsofts. My guess is the Dragon Age will have a CG teaser at gamefest and a more in depth gameplay trailer at the Microsoft show

I don't think Xbox should launch more consoles not because it wouldn't be good but because it will make it harder for Xbox to maintain a consistent quality standard of performance and scope for games, first party or otherwise. We have already seen Series S being a bottleneck in a few games so far and other games being published on Xbox are likely taking a bit extra time for them to be at a decent place on Series S. This is largely only applies to AAA budget games but imagine throwing a handled into the mix. But seems like they are clearly going to launch one. I'll consider one if it supports Steam too because the hardware I know will be good. But they will need to set separate expectations for the different devices and scope of big first party games might hit a ceiling.

Game was awesome, amazing visuals and audio, loved the grimey dark story and enemy design. Gameplay was unresponsive compared to the first due to the choice to frame gameplay as a slightly interactive way of enforcing the story. Senua is easily my fave female based protagonist. it won't mention PlayStation, they'll just do what PlayStation does at state of plays where it only shows PlayStation branding, so you have to google every title to see its actually exclusive because Sony is a douche like that and likes to keep 3rd party titles from PC releases.... example: the last showcase I had to google the VR titles because there was no other platform branding at the end of the trailer, but all of those titles announced are also coming to PCVR meanwhile we still have 0 access to the resident evil VR games on a superior platform, hence the needing to google them where the casual gamer watching the show will just assume it's an exclusive title and will not think anything else of it.

#DDshowcase2024 Much respect to Matty, Cog and Rand. Great show as always. However, Rand, good sir, over 2 minutes on a cinematic trailer in this day and age is totally unnecessary. As much as gamers like a good tease, CGI trailers need to go extinct. No gameplay, no hype I say. Many of the predictions made on the podcast sense but we need to consider 6 years dev time the new standard for AAA games. Otherwise, gamers will keep getting disappointed at these showcases.
