MJX Bugs 5W - Camera FPV upgrade - Fitment

MJX Bugs 5W - Camera antenna upgrade fitment.
I decide to lay the antenna along the top of the PCB - hence the need for insulation tape, this avoids having to bend it. Make sure the antenna "Clicks" into the port on the PCB.
I fitted 2 x 50mm antennas but at the end it would have been better to fit 1 x 50mm and 1 x 70mm - this would give an equal distance hanging out the back.
The antennas were purchased from Banggood.com

Havn't tried flying yet ! I was getting 230 -260 meters fpv on original antenna. I will update this when tested.
OK now tested - and managed to get 569meters FPV. It was intermittant though - sometimes 240, 350 meters but definetely a big improvement. I didn't notice any jerky movement in the drone - it flew as normal - I am assuming it has minimal air drag factor and hardly any extra weight.
I have ordered one 70mm clover antenna and will fit it so they are both the same length outside the camera body - the reason is that I want the Clover heads to be hanging below everything which may give a better signal as there will be no physical obstruction between antenna and mobile phone.

Just finished the up grade to my jjrc x5 epik . The fpv wifi was my only problem with this drone. With this set up I doubled my not only distance but quality. Thanks for making it so easy!

Just sticking the stock antennas out the side case was a HUGE improvement. My fpv range was extended nearly double what I used to get. I'm waiting for my cloverleaf antennas to arrive. UPDATE I dont notice any difference with the cloverleaf at all.

I modded the antenna on my B5W as well and started noticing a jerky flight. Whenever I would go forward, the quad would start to fight against me, with jerking .

hello man, I have some cuestions. the antenas have to be polarized at the same side? one atena is for transmittig and the other for recibing?

Hi. I have jjrc jjpro x5. It's the same with mjx bugs 5w. These antennas are at a frequency of 5.8 G. The droning camera transmits to a frequency of 5180 G. In Europe and Japan. When I put these antennas there, does it work? What frequency do you use for this camera? Antena Working frequency: 5645-5945mhz

First you need to check your mobile phone is 5G Wifi compatable - search your phones specifications either in the instruction manual or Google it . Under wireless connectivity column check for symbols with 802.11ac or sometimes you will see WiFi 5G. Then you must download the "Bugs5W" app onto your phone. The Bugs 5W drone sends out the Wifi signal to your phone.

It's just basic electrical insulation tape for autmotive wiring. Just Google "electrical insulation tape"

Hi Austin if you had put the one that crosses the pcb towards the back of camera and the other one to the front .( swop them over on plugs) they would be almost the same length out the back .

Thanks David, I did realise this after I had done the video. I have ordered a 70 mm long antenna and will be using it alongside the (long)50mm so that they both hang a fair and even distance from the camera body - then angle them downwards so they might give a better signal. Unfortunately Banggood delivery are not quick !

This improoves the First Person Video range - what you view on your mobile phone screen when flying. Before the mod I was getting 230 - 260 meters. I done my first flight today and got 564 meters with the new antennas. I want to adjust the position of the antenna so that the clover heads are below the body of the Bugs - to see if it makes a difference.

I believe the connector type is called " UFL connector" it clips in and pulls off.

The Bugs 5W drone gives out a 5g Wifi signal to the phone so the cell phone needs to be compatable with "5g Wifi" - check the specifications of the phone and look for "WiFi 802.11ac" if it has this then it is ok . I have a Samsung S6 which is two years old now but works.

Which camera? I just ordered an eachine TX03 for my micro drones , but those have short range I believe.

@@oliviergoggins I think you're right and I'm mistaken. Mixed reviews on videos especially when it comes to the different power settings and how much of a difference they really make (except eating up battery life)

@@oliviergoggins People are waiting to see what the unreleased mjx 4 will be like. I think jjrc has something similar that has poor video, but mjx are pretty good at improving on things. the quality of the bugs 5 camera is fine for my needs. one day makers will install a proper gimbal/camera on sub $200 drones. Maybe the Fimi line is something to look into.
