Holy shit! I’ve been collecting decks since middle school, but only by accident. I love card games the most, and I was amazed by the intricate art in many decks and the history behind antique decks. In high school I started popping in to antique stores and buying the coolest decks they had with what little money I had. Now I’m up to 20 decks and I know the history and intricacies of each one. I didn’t know this was a hobby others shared until recently. This is the first time I’ve heard of theory11 and my mouth is hanging open at the gorgeous decks they have. Who knew! While I still prefer buying decks because of their history, these theory11 decks are just too beautiful to pass up. It will be a hard time picking which one to get with my limited resources. I’ve been casually but passionately collecting for maybe 7 years and thanks to your video I now know so much more!

1. Buy only cards you personally like, if you don't sell them down the line you can pass them on to your kids or grandkids. These decks tell partly who you are. 2. Only use a couple decks of cards, leave the rest unopened and in mint condition. 3. Only buy limited edition decks, unless you absolutely love a certain deck. I say this for reselling, it makes no sense for a person to buy from you if they can get the deck in the store. 4. Don't get carried away with very high-priced decks. For instance, I see holographic decks now (Vertex) with a price tag between 129 and 149. Instead, buy 10 limited edition decks of 15 Dollars each.

Good tips for modern collections. The trick is to know which ones will stand the test of time. Antique collections are a bit easier, obviously, because over time decks have disappeared because they were seen as “just a deck of cards”. I, myself, am an antique deck collector with a few modern decks.

Cool vid man, just a quick heads up for anyone collecting to re-sell. I don't really recommend buying multiple decks of let's say Monarchs etc, since those decks are nice and all but the resell value will always stay the same so if you buy 12 Monarchs you will have a hard time making any profit out of it. If you really want profit stay away from custom decks and start looking in to blue seals and vintage casino decks :D

Apart from buying two of a deck, should i keep my cards sealed, or open them. I love looking through the cards and the artworks and that is part of the reason i love collecting but i also want to keep my card decks in beautiful condition and I'd love to keep them all sealed but they sit on the display shelf looking at me until i finally cave and open them. Am i screwing up by opening them or should i not stress about it? It feels like a waste not being able to use them, though i am extremely careful when handling them because i want them to remain in good condition of course.

Honestly, I never quite got this idea of leaving the decks sealed... If you don't plan to sell it later, I definitely think you should open them, take a look, feel it and as you said, preserve it as best as you can...

NEVER toss ad cards. Any cards that belong with the deck when it was issued, must stay with the deck if you are dealing with the proper collectors. They will not, I repeat not, give you full value of a deck if every single card is not present. That goes for jokers too

There is a third collector and those are ones to preserve history as well as collecting for historical value. That’s the one I fall under. I would give a word of warning for people that want to resell in the future, and that would be be aware of the trends that are going on right now because in 10 years or less, some of these decks might tank in value because the popularity of the person that designed it may cease to exist

Get literally anything that makes you go "wow". if you you're looking for rare decks then look at how many were made, it's hard to say what a "good" number is for that. Anything below 5,000 is pretty low! It feels nice to have something that's really hard to get! I know he said not to buy Kickstarter decks, but I think it depends on what you're going for. If you're going for resell, you can usually get decks a lot cheaper on Kickstarter, then make a lot of profit. I personally like buying from Kickstarter because you can get cards that will eventually become rare and it's easier to tell if they'll be rare. For example, I just got a deck, 140 were made and they all sold out in 16 seconds, I know it'll be rare because it's a popular series of cards and only 140 we're made. I guess collecting is just about what makes YOU happy.

I disagree with being super careful with your cards. I’m a cardist and a card collector, and I can tell you right now, if I had a deck of Jerry’s Nuggets or some super rare deck, I would definitely open and do cardistry with it, because what’s the point if you don’t? In the end though, you do you. Whatever you wanna do with your card collection, it’s all good.
