When I buy sealed games it's because they mean something to me and because it's awesome to have a pristine, unopened copy. The only reason anyone could be mad about it is some sort of weird jealousy.

For all those who comment that games were meant to be played need to relax, if that’s your point of view just go buy a cib or loose copy and leave the sealed copy’s to be treasured in its untouched state. The main reason why I collect old CIB games is for aesthetics and historical purposes. I just love the way graded games and CIB games on a shelf look.
@Mitjitsu9 ай бұрын
Those investing into the hobby do need to realize you can buy CIB and still make decent money. This very much reminds of the times I've bought 3 figure CIB games and have someone tell me no game is worth that amount of money (only to ironically sell such games for 3-5 times what I bought it for years later), and be told there's no point buying something when you can just emulate it. As far as I'm concerned these aren't people who're serious about owning a large games collection and either don't understand or care about demand/supply economics.

The thing that i HATE about sealed videogames is storing them properly lol, buying acrylic cases for each game it's too expensive to me (especially when you have 200+ sealed games, lol 30+ euro each?? No thanks) and those plastic hard cases are known to damage games sometime, i go with the Clear plastic resealable bags, they are cheap and they get the job done, i put my game in a BIG shelf, one near the other, i Would love to display them better but i don't have enough space :(
@GetTheGreg9 ай бұрын
I use those little bags too! They seam pretty optimal for any kind of hardcase stuff!
@Odinoian9 ай бұрын
Always preferred sealed too. Having a game in the same state as if I had gotten it as a kid, takes me back to a certain degree. Kinda why I'm not into grading yet, because of the cases. I restrict my collecting to a list of games/etc that I really care about and I'm looking for. It helps me stay focused, it reduces me buying to resell, and it prevents me from eating into other people's list. I don't bid on Mega Man games, even though I like them, just because I don't collect them, and I don't want to be competition for someone who actually want them. The exception would be if I stumble upon a golden opportunity. I think the gripe with sealed collecting is that it attracts more people who don't buy for the hobby but for the money

Why aren’t people up in arms about grading a comic book? If anything you could argue, and make more sense, that flipping through an original comic is a different experience than just reading a reprint, or god forbid, a digital version!

Wouldn’t grading a comic book damage it? Like how could it even get a perfect score if someone has to flip through every page? It would immediately become used right? 😂

I agree I started with loose, then thought about CIB, then realized why would I buy 2 CIB pokemons when I can buy a sealed one instead? Maybe if it was like 20 bux CIB 2000 sealed. But many games are expensive enough that a few can add up to a sealed, and some sealed stuff is like 100-200 bux not everything's multiple thousands which barely covers new price + inflation + grading. Only stuff I don't emulate is GBA because I prefer playing on an actual one and I have basically all the expensive games from childhood, so if I buy anything it's like a 5$ movie game. Like a CIB crystal is sooo much. Or random shovelware games like barbie. Even something like Pocky Rocky and Becky CIB is insane, and barely different from sealed. For some reason drilldozer loose, sealed, and CIB are all similar priced.

It's unfamiliar to me, the concept of collecting games but not keeping the systems hooked up and ready to go. With just one CRT I have NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, PS2 (and by extension, PS1 compatibility) all hooked up. Just might need to change the input on the TV or on the component switch. I *definitely* understand people not having the desire or space for a setup like this, but I'd rather use that space for the systems and other hardware (CRT, light guns, other controllers) even if that meant I had to stick to flash or multi carts.

I think it depends on the region too. In Australia I've seen much cheaper prices than if I'd live in the US which has higher demand
@GetTheGreg9 ай бұрын
Oh absolutely. Collecting american versions is usually the most expensive option for most games.
@jamesamos68909 ай бұрын
I wonder if this will ever change, because I have noticed, especially with sealed PC games there seem to be less overseas at a cheaper cost, not really cheaper after the conversion rate. But like I have been collecting all thr different physical versions of Grim Fandango across all platforms including PC. I have stayed away from the big box since those are super expensive and most of the sealed still have damaged boxes and only VGA can grade big box right now. But I have only found one sealed PAL version of Grim Fandango for PC. So I actually had to spend a good bit for that one, and a good bit to me is over $100, so nothing super crazy but more then I have ever spent before on a video game.

I think you should of said graded. You can play sealed games you easily open them. I was buying sealed PS3 games when they were cheap like a dollar more than CIB. Some of them I opened them and in fact played them. Some will stayed sealed because I have open cib copy or I haven't got around to playing said game. Graded games however you could open them but it won't be easy and well that kinda defeats the purpose of grading them

I have the opinion that, if sealed videogames didn't exist, then the game market wouldn't be as inflated as it is now. hear me out. covid really started the boost in prices, with everyone stuck at home and reminiscing about past times of their favorite childhood games. then the Grading market started hitting the scene, people finding old boxes of sealed product in their attics or old game shops, or in the wild even. which would of course raise the price. a bit but not so significantly that it was out of reach buying any old game sealed. in comes scalpers, finding whatever they can for as cheap as they can, marking up prices, inflating the market by pure greed. now enters the graded games, wata and other companies start catching on to video game popularity and sealed product on the rise ever so quickly, so they act and start offering video game grading services. now the prices are ramping up. in comes rich people seeing the $$$$$ signs, set up a sealed item for auction and one of them buy it from the other for over a MILLION DOLLARS., for no reason other than making money with and inflating the video game collecting market. and now here we are with games at outrageous prices, scalpers ripping unsuspecting people of their childhood games to make mass profit and to send others for grading. TLDR; 1 covid lockdown 2 getting into collecting as a hobby 3 scalpers 4 graders 5 rich people with infinite wealth 6 auctions 7 unstoppable market inflation
@CobraVice9 ай бұрын
P.S. grading is directly responsible for the prices for cib or loose product now because people see graded copies now going for way too high and buying them just to grade them. if the grading didn't exist, there wouldn't be as much chase on sealed product and there would be less sealed product in general because it wouldn't be insane to open a sealed copy of a game because it wasn't so expensive on the active market.

Watched some Karl Jobst videos a while ago and I'm guessing the algo recommended Greg's channel. Watched a couple of your videos so far. I collect Nintendo Switch mainly. Big cardboard boxes filled with additional junk have been my thing for years, possibly decades now. When high level collectors talk about why they collect. It makes me laugh because there is always some deep perspective or market related justification for doing it. And you guys always, and I mean always go 'Nostalgia Tripping'... But you never go deep into the games themselves... I'd respect you guys a lot more if you just say it like it is: Profit. It's not about some deep rooted or noble enterprise. Your making bank. When the number goes up high your happy, when the number slows or goes down your not. I'll be honest right now. I hope some day that some of my collecting is worth something when I'm dead and gone. My family needs a good break and maybe all my shit might give them a start when they need it most. My problem is I'm a gamer first. I want to play the games I buy. I don't see 'Investment Opportunity' - Maybe that's why I'm kinda poor lol. Honest question to Greg: Do you not play the majority of your investments because you might end up enjoying the games themselves and struggle to make sound financial judgements? Can't remember who said it but someone said once you can't fall in love with your own product... Or something like that anyway... No disrespect intended but I come from a world with little small talk so when someone talks deeply about something that is basically market speculation I just find it frustrating. All the best to Greg. And to the folks who read this: Hope you achieve your goals.
