These videos always feel less like “just another KZbin video from Internet personality” and more like an introspective series of looks into your life and interests. Not in the weird parasocial way, just that this feels more personal to you than the regular trend chasing topical videos we usually see on this platform. Keep it up!

Another thing that I love about collecting is getting things second hand. There is nothing better then being out and about and then seeing a dvd or game u collect. Like seeing an actually good wii game in a pile of wii sports resort and just dance. Like the other day I found resident evil 4 for cheap and its the best feeling.

I've never been able to justify to myself why I would buy a vinyl when I mostly use Spotify (because I'm not an animal like SOME of us) but I think this convinced me to make the move. Beautiful video and fantastic storytelling, per usual!

What happens with Spotify or other streaming services is thay you forget whats on your collection. Having the actual disc or record will help you revisit.

Actually, the addition of Eraserhead is what makes a person a person, it's not a dark film if observed in a mindful and analytical manner, it's a piece of art (you should not forget, Lynch is an artist before and after) and like any piece of art it's not empty.

This video was very calming to watch while sipping my coffee and made me think about why I collect the things I do. Also, your paper skits are super charming and unique!

dude, I’m in the exact same boat lmao, I don’t play my vinyls too often but sifting through them it’s such an easy way to reminisce on what I was doing/ feeling at the time I got it. I’d get back into collecting them but it’s an expensive hobby unfortunately.

This video is gold. Plz keep this up and you will see success. As someone who is into photography, I love printing my own pictures and making them more than just "images" but as something I can admire in person up on a wall. I think collecting is fun and I always love finding something new to collect. From, Bingus.

For me, part of the fun of collecting isnt just cultivating something you love, but also the Thrill of the Hunt. I try my damnedest not to order stuff online & its makes it more memorable to find something you love; or even something you didn't know you'd love til you get it (esp as a record collector)

This was a very well thought out and informative video! And I agree with your take on physical media. There's just one problem with DVDs and to a lesser extent Blu Rays. Disc rot. There's no avoiding it either. In the not too distant future, there will be no movie or music discs left. It will truly be a sad day.

I love collecting, I’ve always just seen it as a fun pastime that lets you fall into a niche little group to just not think about real life for a little bit. I collect video games and Pokémon cards. Been doing it since I was a kid and have recently gotten into grading cards. It’s fun to talk with my friends what cards we are gonna send in and we all meet up to see the grades we get on things. Although it’s expensive, we fund it by selling the duplicates/ones we don’t care too much for. I haven’t been collecting video games as much recently bc of how expensive the hobby is now, I was lucky to buy most of my expensive games when I was a kid or right before the pandemic.

this video is very comforting to me as a collector. recent talk of overconsumption on social media has led me to feel guilty about how much i own and continue to buy. while i do think it is an important conversation a lot of content out there feels denigrative. i collect lego, books, manga, figures, vinyl, and video games :-)

I got sick a couple days ago and this was just the thing I needed to cheer me up! Thanks for another quality video and the music suggestions man! (and also, pokemon cards ARE still pretty popular, at least where I'm from.)

I grew up collecting stuff, but I had the opposite reaction than most, and now I hate collecting stuff, I just download everything I want. Maybe I’ve been beaten down by consumerism and now my logic is if I don’t value “things” anymore, what’s the point of collecting anything? You are right tho, the memories of revisiting old stuff I had is such an amazing feeling

I wish Criterion Collection didn't get the rap of it being "basic" or "pretentious" as much as it does. I recently watched Pather Panchali, an amazing Indian film from Satyajit Ray that really shows so much about the world he lived in, I feel like it's cultural value is staggering. This is a film that was basically lost for many years, and was not only found but was digitally remastered to it's current beautiful condition. Without something like the Criterion Collection, I would never have had the privilege to watch such a movie, and something so precious and special would simply be lost because of where it came from and the age it was created in. :(

i’m only 21, but i was forced to study early ever since the very start of my life. i finished high school at 16 and finished university in 20, and it really took a toll on me. i always see collecting/gathering/hoarding tangible items as a compensation to the 2 years worth of youth that i never got to have, because by the time i was supposed experience it, i was mentally behind and underdeveloped. that’s why now i want to compensate that inner younger self. now that i have all these things in front of me i should be able to justify the weird life situation ive had and accept it. sometimes, not a lot of people understand why we stick to physical items when digital exists, but just because they’re on the internet doesn’t mean they actually belong to you. if they do, they wouldn’t be as personal as the physical version of it.
