Murray is such an extraordinary man, an engineering icon in my view. Creating a supercar that is lighter than a current MX-5 and has a freaking NA V12 with 663 HP , 467 Nm that revs to 12.000 RPM ? AND it's a manual? We should be building a shrine to him.

@@tombittikoffer412 Too many. Start with engine reliability and the F50 underpowered engine is because of this. Ferrari made a 700 hp engine for race with F40 and a 900 hp engine with F50. Actually, F50 was faster then a prototype car, but Ferrari insisted with that wrong vision of a F1 road car, so, they made open cockpit, not the most aero efficient car. And both are road legal cars, high hide height, soft suspension.

Hopefully the T50 at least inspires people, even if it's just a small percentage, to think about cars differently. The weight and unnecessary size of modern cars is very sad. We don't see enough Lotuses, Alpines etc.

Totally agree. This is why I put the T.50 in the same category as a Porsche by Singer. Both cars are the best of analog technology and both are scaled to the human body.
@davidhunternyc1
@davidhunternyc1 4 жыл бұрын
@@DarkHumorWritesItself I listened intently when Gordon and Chris were talking about electric cars. They are the future. ICE engines reliance on oil and the pollution they cause isn't sustainable for the planet. Yes, a Tesla weighs 4,400 lbs. (The T.50 weighs less than 1/2 of a Tesla.) but this is because battery technology is still in its infancy. It might take 10 - 20 years for battery technology to mature but this is nothing compared to how long ICE engines have been around. The energy density in electric motors compared to petrol is abysmal but this will change. Elon Musk is heading the way but there are other brilliant minds as well. Without Tesla every automotive manufacturer in the world would have continued to do business as usual. Even Toyota, with the success of the Prius sued California over emission standards and, 20 years from now, the VW Golf would still be the same as it is today. Electric cars and battery technology are the disruption that the automotive industry needed. We are just at the beginning and experiencing growing pains. This doesn't take anything away from the brilliance of the T.50. In fact, two nights ago I stayed awake the entire night reading and listening to everything I could about the T.50. I finally fell asleep at 8am, woke up at noon, and started all over again. The T.50 is an engineering marvel. It's the only drivers car that interests me besides a Porsche by Singer.
@davidhunternyc1
@davidhunternyc1 4 жыл бұрын
@@DarkHumorWritesItself Yes, I was listening, and I didn't have to listen to know these facts. You didn't read what I said. "The energy density in electric motors compared to petrol is abysmal but this will change." I also know there's an exhorbitant amount of pollution associated with the production of batteries. Like I said, we are at the beginning stages and there are growing pains. There's the world of mass market cars and the world of $2.5 million supercars. They are not the same. My only ticket to technology is a subway ticket and even if I had the money I would not buy a Tesla today. Too many quality control problems and I would hold out for solid-state batteries. Now let's talk about Porsche by Singer. You said, "Singer is overpriced 964 911." That's blasphemy. You need to read your Bible: _Genesis 2, Verses 2 - 4._ "and on the 7th day, God looked down from the heavens upon the masses of automotive mediocrity. None of what He saw pleased him; not Ferrari, Rolls Royce, not even a donkey, so God stretched his arm down to the Earth and touched the hand of Rob Dickinson. Alas, Singer Vehicle Design was born. Let there be light."

@@moosahans4830 The thing is, living in eastern Europe 911s have hardly any presence here and I get excited whenever I see one or anything above that, though yes my generation is certainly a lot more spoiled with how much info you can accumulate over these online but I think my case just hyper-intensifies how exciting the T.50 is now.
@PrinceBarin77
@PrinceBarin77 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, likely these are moments you can reflect back on in years to come with a sense of “I was there”. One key difference between then and now is the availability of information and media. When I was growing up in the late 70s and 80s there was no internet, you tube or social media. Anything you learned about supercars such as the F1 was through a combination of playground myths and Top Trumps! If you were lucky you might get hold of a magazine or two. Contrast that with the media surrounding the T50. So much that I cannot possibly consume it all - it’s great to have so much intel these days but I do somewhat miss the myth and mystery of those pre-internet days.

Well, Cris and Mr. Murray. It is so difficult to explain how much I wish my dad could have heard this. My dad born in 1943 and was a huge F1 fan. I grew up with a passion for 80S and 90s F1 racing. He had every race recorded on VHS TAPE!! He was a true fan of the sport. Include 24 hours...This interview was so different than what has been released over the last several days, about the T50. I’m speechless. The variety of topics discussed today, I only wish my dad could have heard this...especially the 60/40 air split between the radiator and downforce. I’m running low on Kleenex...Anyway...wow speechless! Oh yeah side note! WOW Gordon Murray’s environmental view, very solid thoughts on the future. What an amazing person, legacy and Car maker.

Bravo Chris, great let’s-not-rush-through-this interview, what a talent Gordon is. Love all the history, the philosophy, the passion. Two things. I once had a request from Peter Stevens (via my friend, that late Richard Lloyd) to lend him a road car whilst he was at work helping to style the original F1, so he borrowed my then ex GTi Engineering Golf, and then following that, my 2CV Charleston, which was a bit tatty, and he said he loved leaving it in the McLaren Cars car park as it wound up Gordon, who he said wasn’t a fan... Secondly, I used to own a drop head ‘73 Elan Sprint, which was always such a rewarding car to drive, especially on a good A or B road, and I completely get why Gordon has (more than) one and rates it so highly. My dream would be that he reimagines one for the ‘20s. Only complaint is you forgot to remind him about the Piquet anecdote(s), but hey, next time!

I would add to Gordon's comments about the idiotic proliferation of SUV's - for anybody out there dismayed at the rise of electrified cars - and oppressing emission laws stifling internal combustion engine vehicles - look in your garage or that of your neighbour - and if you or your neighbour have one - YOU ARE THE PROBLEM!! i only wish I could ever afford a T50 because I am exactly the person that Gordon designs these cars for; an outright enthusiast who lives for driving and who drives for the experience and not the bragging rights.

Chris, Absolutely great interview. Even though we didn't get to see the car as in some of the other videos around, this was very interesting to listen to. Gordon Murray is absolutely brilliant as an engineer and he knows what really matters in a car and what we (he) want(s) from a car. Wish he would do an affordable sports car as well, would really like to drive one of the cars he designed.

best interview I've heard in a long time. Gordon Murray is just right about everything automotive-related. Couldn't help thinking at the end that Chris might be a bit guilty - I think I remember him saying his family also has a massive SUV for the school run.

the number of KZbin ads during what is visually just one long ad for a car consignment service is a massive piss-take though. Taking the piss squared, I think Mister 'Arris.

Cudos to two of my favorite car guys!! 💪 Love the fact that GM drives a gen 4 Jimny. I’m pretty old skool and love my lightweight 914-6 restomod.

Out of all the interviews done over the past few days on Gordon Murrray and his T50 (believe me there are quite a few), this is by far the best out of them all. It could be there is no camera/s pointing at Mr. Murray; he seems very natural and more articulated. Or ... it could just be Harris himself, his enthusiasm shines through always, who knows ...
