the goody bags are honestly an awesome idea. its definitely not necessary, but doing something out of kindness for others is almost always a great thing

Allie Ruggles i think its genius too. It seems like more for the mom to feel less anxiety because she is acknowledging that she feels bad but at the end of the day, what can you do? It’s very sweet
@thornlings5 жыл бұрын
Couldn't have said it better myself. Definitely not *necessary* and not something I think non-parents should feel they have a right to *expect* when on a plane with a little one, but a very kind gesture and kindness is always a good thing.

It’s not a panic attack a panic attack is when you have a strong feeling like your going to die even though you are totally fine. What she had was more like a anxiety attack. When I have panic attacks I can’t breath and my legs and hands start to feel numb and I start thinking I am having a heart attack when I am not. Normally when people have panic attacks they are not able to cry because of the fear they are in they usually cry after the attack is over. She was having an anxiety attack not a panic attack.

My best friend has the same skin picking disorder. The one thing that has helped her immensely is getting manicures every two weeks with dipping powder over her short natural nail. It makes it very hard to pick the skin because it thickens and kind of rounds the edge of your nail. She also applies first aid beauty ultra repair cream every night once they start to heal some. She has been doing this for about four months and her fingers have improved so much!

I have severe OCD and dermatillomania is actually extremely common for me. I’m always picking at my skin, especially any dry skin or hanging skin near my nails will start as me peeling it off to there being practically no more skin around my nail... it also tends to get worse when I have a lot of stress, tension, anxiety or even excitement and that jittery feeling... it calms me down completely and I get into this zone and can’t stop. Just wanted to let you know that you aren’t alone in this and I hope you find a way to cope with it. Take care of yourself!! Sending you & your family tons of positive vibes 🙌🏽💛

I do the same thing with my fingers. My Dad called it a nervous habit. Usually it gets worse with the more I need to do. Wish I was at the show. Maybe next year.

I do this too, it's really annoying. I can recommend using Burt's Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle cream on your cuticles, it softens the skin so that there are fewer rough edges to pick at. Also when it gets really bad I recommend trying to find something to do that occupies your hands, for me i like to knit or crochet (especially on public transport commutes). And it's not only that my hands are busy so they can't scratch at my skin, but the repetitive motion of the knitting or crochet actually soothes the anxiety that I would otherwise alleviate with the repetitive motion of skin picking, only this is much healthier, plus after a while you'll suddenly have a sweet new hat or money pouch or what have you. Just some little unsolicited tips from an experienced skin picker.

Colleen!! Thank you for talking about this...I have really bad dermatillomania and have since I was in 10th grade and I’m 21 now. Ive always felt so insecure about it. Not a lot of people know about it but it is a real thing!! It does help by someone like you being real and open about it. Love you 💛

Girl, my dermatillomania got worse after having each child. Mine is mostly scalp (not hair pulling) focused, but the results of the picking aren't obvious thankfully! My picking is worse with stress and anxiety. ♡

For anyone who is is struggling : When you have a lot going on, even if it's good stuff, you can (and most likely will) get overwhelmed and your mind has a lot to process, so give yourself some time (even if it feels like you don't have any😅). Hope this helps, have a nice day

Yes, she definitely had a panic attack. I have panic attacks at least once a week and it sounds similar to that.

Colleen I struggle with the same thing. I’ve always had bad anxiety and I pick at the sides of thumbs. I now sit with my thumbs inside of my fist. I’m trying everyday to break this habit!! You’re not alone!!

I dig my scalp when I am anxious. It is so interesting to me how stress manifests differently in people.

My scalp finally healed up after I had picked it raw over the course of a few months. I also just got a new haircut to help my scalp heal completely.

I’d been doing that for years, I never even knew until my therapist mentioned it to me. I’d make myself bleed and for awhile I was losing hair. I immediately thought of that when she said her OCD finger situation.

Sophia Davies yes that’s what I’m thinking too. Plus the skin picking is anxiety as well

I agree that sounds a lot like a panic attack probably just from her stress, exhaustion, and anxiety. Glad she's okay tho!

Came to say the same. I’ve been there plenty of times. It’s scary and overwhelming. Post partum anxiety is a thing not many people talk about.

FINALLY theres a youtuber who is talking about Dermatillomania and bringing it to light. I have it bad I pick my fingers and I especially pick the skin on my lips. Picking the skin on my lips is what has been the worst I do it until my lips bleed and hurt and chaptstick wont even help. My son is 4 and he has been doing the same thing... picking at his lips I hope his doesnt get as bad as mine. I have had Dermatillomania since I was little it gets especially bad when my anxiety is just a tiny bit elevated anything stressful whether its little or big it doesnt matter if its anything close to stressful my lips are paying the price. Im glad you talked about this and brought it to light because i felt so alone and embarassed and now i dont!! Thanks so much Colleen! Much Love from Boston! 💖
