Warning: I went a little crazy and deeply analyzed basically every frame in the BTS Black Swan music video. I watched a 5 minute music video, talked about it for over and hour, then edited it down to 30 minutes lol. I hope y'all enjoy and if not that's okay, have a wonderful day and keep on dancing :)

Hey y'all, I think some of the audio got cut out because of copyright. Sorry about this, I'll see if I can fix it but if not I hope it doesn't affect your enjoyment of the video too much :) I know during one point during the initial watch through, I was talking about how they continue to dance even when they are still, which I elaborate on later in the video. Other than that I think it was mostly incoherent sounds lol.

yes, like the previous commentor said, just leave the bighit intro and you should be ok. they will still copyright u but it won't affect your video or audio. bighit takes reaction as part of marketing/promo

Hi Margaret, like the previous commenter had said, as long as you show the logo and Intro screen (BigHit Music intro screen) at the beginning and watch videos from official channels (HYBE Labels, BangtanTV), BigHit, their company, will not strike copyright. BH actually sees react videos as promo! And as long as you don’t monetize your videos, it should be fine. :) Like they also said, be careful do you watch videos of them from Japanese channels and tv stations cause they are much more strict and will copyright strike. Other than that, I love how excited you are to react to more videos and you being excited makes ME excited and I cannot wait to see more videos from you!! Thank you for taking the time to watch and react and analyze the videos. You are doing so great! Keep it up! 💜💜💜

Just want to add, in case nobody else has said so so far, some of the quality of Jimin's movement derives from his years of martial arts training. He has a Taekwondo black belt, and studied Kendo for eight years. Thank you for a great dance-centric reaction that is extremely knowledgeable and sensitive.

This really has to be some of the most interesting dance commentary I've ever heard 😳 it's SUPER cool to have it explained like this, like..... what it is about BTS' movements that is captivating. Because I know it is, I just don't always know -why- it is, and this fills in a lot of the gaps. I can't wait to see more of these!!

you should definetly watch jimin's blakswan solo behind the scenes bangtan bomb where it goes more in depth as he trained in moedern dance so a lot of the techniques and the style he dances in hs so much grace and elegance in exicution and tendencies to point his toes or finish every movement with efforlessness or grace and i think you will enjoy reacting to serendipity live performance eng sub jimin because of his performance quality not just in a dance practice but also on stage and the presence he carries whether he is dancing in hipop or contemporary he has very graceful tendenies

When you were talking about Jimin throwing his head I cringe so much because he has an old, chronic, neck injury - he's really, really trusting technique to save him! Also, the rappers absolutely practice their gestures. It probably becomes second nature, but you can find video of even BTS (several years ago) figuring out their gestures. It's funny you stopped on J-Hope to talk about gestures, though, because his background is street dance. You can very much see that influence in how he mediates the music. The contrast between Jimin's contemporary training and J-Hope's street dance training when they do the same moves is fascinating. Loved listening to you interpret the frame-by-frame!

I took dance for ten years in my youth. I love your perspective as a dancer. This Black Swan MV is one of my favorites of theirs. (You should also check out a live barefoot version on James Corden.) - So beautiful! Other BTS dancing favorites are “On Kinetic Manifesto Film” music video. - “Idol” Live on Jimmy Fallon/Tonight show. (Love the barrel turns!) And check out Jimin doing an ethereal contemporary dance to their song “I Need U” at MMA 2019. Another charming favorite performance is “Boy With Luv”on Stephen Colbert Show where they are introduced by Stephen doing an impersonation of Ed Sullivan as if he was introducing the Beatles.-guessing because they had broken a Beatles record. Ask your mother/grandmother about this old show.) The boys have on dark suits like the Beatles did and it is filmed in black and white. It really shows that even when the dance may not be as technical, they dance with their entire body. I love all dance, so whatever you want to share with us will be appreciated.

I really loved seeing you explain the whole music video almost frame by frame, I love your cadence and the way you explain things! It's amazing that you already have some of their names paired with their faves even though you haven't watched much from them! 16:39 Jimin is remarkably good at spotting! He is well known for his turns. You might enjoy his LIE performance where he dances blindfolded and TURNS while blindfolded. 28:25 Yes! “Black Swan” is inspired by her quote: “A dancer dies twice. The first time is when he stops dancing and this first death is much more painful”. “Black swan” is about their fear that some day they’ll lose their passion for music and this would be their first death. Black swan is based on Carl Jung's work of the Map of the Soul where the shadow, ego and persona (and more) are all equally important parts to a person's construct. The dance moves in particular you can see in the beginning they pluck what seems to be invisible string instruments, while at the end of the choreography they seem to be hanging by those very strings like puppets. Their shadow (fear/secret) has consumed them. So... the song draws inspiration from both the ballet (Swan Lake) in it's choreo and imagery, but also draws a lot of inspiration from the movie "Black Swan", which in turn is heavily based on the Japanese anime film "Perfect Blue" (no matter what the director says... it's obvious). Both movies break identity and deal (in a non-obvious way) and can be easily linked to Carl Jung's theory of the self: Persona, Ego, Shadow. In these movies, a female performer spirals into insanity as increased pressures in her career cause her to lose grip of herself and reality. “Black Swan” tells the story of Nina, a passionate ballerina (Natalie Portman) who struggles to maintain her sanity while competing for the main role (the White Swan, Odette) in “Swan Lake.” Meanwhile, “Perfect Blue” follows Mima, a former (Japanese) pop idol whose sense of reality begins to waiver as she attempts to transition into a career as a serious actress. Both stories feature a female protagonist is put in highly stressful situations and that makes them question their identity and ultimately conjure up a doppelganger that messes with their psyche (persona, shadow and ego, basically clash). Just as Nina suffers from the pressures of being a ballerina, Mima is also forced to deal with the strict expectations of being a Japanese idol. Their personal conflicts also bleed into their professional lives causing them to spiral out of control. In Nina’s case, it comes in the form of her oppressive mother and in Mima’s situation, it’s an obsessive stalker fan. At the core of the film, both protagonists have a psychological battle with themselves that results in hallucinations that blurs the lines between fiction and reality. In the end, like I said, these films break the self and deal with themes like loss of passion and the heartbreak that come with working for your dreams. Black Swan (BTS), at its core, reflects these themes. I think that Perfect Blue can be chillingly on point for BTS, since they too are idols and experience some of the things that Mima experienced as an idol and continues to go through. BTS reflect the core concepts of these movies, identity, and conceptualise them to reflect their fear of losing their passion for music and, by extension, losing themselves. They portray people who are afraid that music is all there is to them and are afraid of losing themselves if they lose their passion.

Lol... every reactor is amazed at how awesome army is. We love finding new ways to appreciate BTS. Their dancing is actually what drew me in. I watched a couple of their more pop-style songs first and almost blew them off because they seemed (on the surface) to be just another average pop group. But then I watched Dope. And even as someone who doesn't know a lot about dance (but who still loves it), I could just SEE how much work they had put into being as good as they are. Most of their mv's don't have as much contemporary dance in them, but, with Jimin, they definitely work it in. Jimin is really a beautiful dancer. But I also wanted to draw your attention to J-Hope. He was the one at 20:20 where you were commenting on how rappers use their hands when they perform. He actually started out as a dancer and only learned to rap after joining BTS. He is considered by many to be one of the best dancers in kpop. He learns dances in hours that can take others days to learn. (If you can't tell.... he's my bias😊). But, I think that it is amazing that even those that came into BTS with no dance background are holding their own. For suggestions, I recommend "On:Kinetic Manifesto", "Idol", "Blood, Sweat, and Tears", "Fire", "Not Today", "DNA", "Fake Love", "We are Bulletproof, pt.2", and "Dope". And I would definitely continue to watch the dance practices, performances, and mv's. You get to see all of the different sides of their performance that way. Also, on behalf of my bias, I recommend "Boy vs Evil", "[Bangtan Bomb] j-hope and Jimin Dancing in Highlight Reel" (very short), and J-hope's dance-focused vlives. He likes to spend time freestyling and posts it for army. I've really enjoyed your reactions. You are too freaking adorable and I love your little notes. I also love how excited you get about dance. Everyone needs to have something they are that passionate about. Looking forward to more. 😊

Love hearing your analysis. I'm a retired dancer and when I discovered BTS I watched this video over and over because of the beautiful technique! Love the extensions and the use of hard sharp movements with soft flowwy....energy all the way past the fingertips...the mixture of ballet, contemporary, & hiphop ...just love it everytime. Love the video itself with the use of black and white/shadow and light plus the symbolism attached in the lyrics and visuals.

As the other commenters mentioned, your enthusiastic and careful analysis of the members' dancing adds greatly to our understanding and appreciation of BTS' performances. I'm sure others have mention this, but some of the members, like Jin, didn't have a background in dance before joning the group as trainees. If you ever have time, it would be interesting to hear your perspective about how much effort and time would go into training a non-dancer to dance at their level.

I can tell how vested in this by your breathlessness as you speak. Your excitement is contagious. I love that you break it down technically, but also very obviously on an emotional level. Your grasp on the intent behind the movements is refreshing. For future reactions i suggest letting the bighit/hybe intro play at the beginning of the video, that way they won't block you or remove your audio. As you move forward with your reactions, you will find that for most of their MV's their is a dance practice video available. A friend of mine is a professional ballet dancer (also on youtube) and I loved how she described Jimin's dancing once; she said Jimin has this ability to make every move be ALMOST out of control, but then manages to pull back JUST ENOUGH for it to be controlled. (she explains it better). Basically, when Jimin dances, we are SO captivated because it seems like he could lose control of the move at any moment, but never does... it keeps us on the edge of our seats. :)

I love that you went over the crawling, and then the release part. I always watch these type of reaction videos to see if other people pick up/ feel what I did. And this is a moment that many skip over, and yet it's the part that make me cry. When it comes to BTS and there dances there's always a select few moments that hit harder/hit closer to home then I would ever want them to. And I am an emotional person. Back to the crawling, this video is so heart breaking because it's based on this struggle of loving your artistry when it becomes something you hate. (in their dance film which they hired a contempory dance team to perform for with their music in a different video) They started with the quote "A dancer dies twice- once when they stop dancing, and the first death is the more painful" -Martha Graham, it applies to yes the dance but it goes back to their struggle, would they find their love again or would they die, and be left with the scar of losing passion. When it comes to the artists struggle, the big one is expression and internal struggles, and for Jimin to crawl on the floor, and then release it, it feels like he's broken down from this death, that everything he once loved is falling around him, and then when he releases it, there's this question, "did he die trying to find his passion again?"

Hi! Thank you for the reaction, it was very educational and fun to watch! I am guessing you took out the audio to avoid copyright - BTS' label doesn't strike down music videos so you can play them in full, just make sure you include that little intro like you did today! You just won't be able to monetize the video. That being said, live performances, paid content (like their reality shows), American late night shows and japanese music videos do get strikes, so be careful. As a rule, anything from the channels HYBE Labels and BangtanTV is good to go ;)

This was a really fun and interesting reaction! I loved listening you talk about all the dance information. Also you roasting yourself in your edited comments was really funny 😆. For other dance performances, I'd suggest you watch a performance of Jimin's Lie and J-Hope's Boy Meets Evil. For group performances Blood Sweat and Tears and Fake Love have similar vibes to Black Swan. And Idol and On are just absolutely wild, and to see them dance like that while also singing is an experience.

Just a note, since many reactors have fallen into this trap - there are two Spring Day dance practices. The "Lovely" version is a parody they gifted to us during our yearly anniversary party, Festa, a couple years ago. But I am so picky on which KZbin channel I subscribe to because I know a lot of KZbinrs just react to BTS just for clout. Not you though. I genuinely believe that your reaction videos are pure and really come from your dance background and knowledge-which I know all ARMYs appreciate. As a wannabe dancer in my long ago youth, I love finding reactors who are dancers - particularly modern dancers. BTS choreographers are, imho, world class. (My understanding is that J-Hope contributes to any refinements to the movements). I'm always enthralled with their dancing. 💜 As for suddenly no sound in your video - I've been watching BTS reactors for months so it didn't phase me. Those strikes will keep you on your toes. That and Black Swan is one of my favorites so I can hear the music even in the silence. I loved this format better then your last one - you watching it straight through. Your face spoke volumes. The icing on the cake was your thorough dissection of just about everything dance. Second heaven for me. Black Swan Art Film performed by MN Dancers is breathtaking. The MV and this performance is what threw me into learning more about BTS. I hope it's on your "to view" list.

I love how you pwn your self in your written comments on screen. 😂 I knew this song was based on the Martha Graham quote-- the exploration of losing one's inspiration to create-- but I never put it together with that hint of Graham's style in Jimin's floorwork. Jimin's got the most insane body-sense I've ever seen. When he's dancing, he ALWAYS knows where his body is in space, and it lets him do the most incredible things. And I saw someone else mentioned his taekowndo expertise-- I love that he melds that, and his classic modern training, AND his hip-hop training into one beautiful, completely new whole. What you called a cartwheel at 24:21? That was esentially a taekwondo kick. If you watch carefully, his hand goes down, but his right leg never leaves the floor. (And to think, you were impressed in the last video that this "hip-hop dancer" was able to get his leg up to a 130 degree angle. 😉After you said that, I was SOOOO waiting for you to watch this!)

First off, I really hope the onion/layers Shrek reference was on purpose, cause I loved it!! I also loved your explanation and interpretation, it was really informative (and really fun to see you enjoy it!). If you want more on this song, there's a behind the scenes of Jimin's solos, you can see them figuring out the cameras while he marks the choreo, and then the filming of the solo in full, it's really nice and you might see the parts that were cut short in editing! (you'll need to turn on the subtitles if you don't already!) I'd love to see your take on the dance practice for "Fake Love" as well if no one's mentionned it! I think a few moves are inspired by contemporary but the piece is overall a really different style but it's a really emotional dance as well in my opinion 😊 (His solo for the "MMA 2019" awards is also amazing and will probably be right up your alley, but it's really short)

There's definitely elements of the West Coast hip hop aesthetic (lyrical hip hop I suppose) you were describing too. It's common to have the choreography right down to how your hands and fingers should be. Isolatons and tutting is a big influence. Plus the changing tempo of really slow to super quick is a big part of the texture.

Hi! First of all I've loved your reaction! BTS also have another mv for this song with a different arrangement and the whole video is just beautiful. I highly highly encourage you to react to that: black swan art film performed by MN dance company. Bts is not in that video but it's totally worth reacting to it. I'm sure you're going to love it. Also there is a Martha Graham quote at the beginning of that video. And is talked about in the lyrics. I think the coreo speaks of itself but if you want to deep down in the concept you can check the lyrics out in your own time if you haven't already :)
