is this good for masters? I am not from usa and thinking about masters in us. I have very less gpa in my undergrad so my counsellor suggesting this university for masters in mis.

My bad for the late response to be honest I didn’t know UIS had that as a major option if they do I believe that UIS would be a good choice the cost of attendance is about $24,500 US dollars if that helps at all I don’t rlly know your financial situation but that’s pretty cheap for a college but I’ve never met anyone with that major here make sure you look on the University of Illinois springfield website to make sure that they have that as a major if they do I’d say yes

@kanyewest4718 as of rn it’s pretty low 2.8 Computers science classes pretty hard but in high school I had a 4.5 just for background info

Thanks for posting. You made the right choice. I sent in my application to the graduate program and hoping I get accepted. I like the academic curriculum, convenient schedule, and tuition. UIS is ranked 24 in MidWestern Regional Universities, ahead of U Wisconsin-Whitewater and Platteville. It's a pretty good program for a public state school.

Heard their graduate students are well taken care of. I also heard if you graduate from being a undergrad here, and then come back for your graduate degree, they will cover your tuition. I didn’t know their rank though, that’s pretty good for a fairly “newer” college.

Springfield in General is boring. Good for a laid-back, introverted personality. Barber shops suck, and Nightlife sucks but good for students to focus without distraction. The school is great with funding. The GPSI is actually top-notch. Academically, UIS is good school

I mean yeah Ngl it’s also based on your race/ethnicity sometimes based on your group it can be also for extroverted ppl, it’s barbershops that’s good I go to a barber that’s raw and he like 10min away one bus ride. But the rest you said it true doe im not saying it ain’t boring it def can be and the weekends be dead asl it’s def more for them ppl that’s just trying graduate without tryna get hella debt or loans.

One should keep in mind that for years and years, UIS (formerly Sangamon State University) functioned mainly as a commuter college. No one “lived” there… except when I fell asleep in the studio. 😮 Most students had full time jobs and took classes part-time. It didn’t start out as a four-year school. Just a note…

@@javar_inq it’s changed sooooo much since I graduated there (‘92, I think). We really were “on our own” out there and we had unusually close contact with some of our professors. We’d hang out from time to time. I once got talked into taking the recently-hired University President into Springfield to show her around. It was very laid back. I always loved the library (great place to take a nap) and the theater was top notch. Saw Mozart’s Don Giovanni there one year. It was a “write your own adventure” university, for sure. I truly hope you have a great experience after it’s all said and done! Wishing you good luck in your matriculation, pardner.

@iambecomepaul I appreciate that, they always show us throw back pictures even I think to the yeah of 92. Since then a lot have changed like the food area switched to the new “Union” building that they built like back in 2017 or something. To be honest a lot of the school population Heavily declined after 2020 quarantine, the campus is small but with the student rate being low the weekends pretty much not a soul is on campus ever. They also took out a lot of student transportation, they use to have busses and vans that take students to white oaks mall (I think it’s called) and to surrounding stores evey now and then. On the flip side it seem like more students is starting to come again and the rates are going up especially because the cost is so low. But I appreciate it hope your life going well too

Yes it’s a decent amount my year, and they got some clubs like Afro beats, Black student union etc. where you will find a lot. Also living on campus.

The university offers MS in computer science only in online mode. How is it different from the on-campus courses. Is there an on-campus option for MS-CS

I can’t really make that decision to be honest, for “me” it would boil down to 1. Where is it 2. Cost 3. If it has my specific major 4. What division is the school/how big is it. 5. How active is campus 6. How’s the dorms And that’s kinda how I’d judge it but I know much of nothing of weight state to be honest I could answer them question about UIS tho also if you from Illinois or ohio gotta also keep in mind you be paying out of state tuition.
