It might not be a 1 vs 2 matchup because Georgia could lose to Alabama and Texas could lose to Oklahoma. Also the committee seems to screw up the 1 vs 2 matchups they have done that multiple times with the playoff ranking show

What sucks though is that with the new playoff rules one of those two teams will be forced out of a first round bye. The first round bye rules favor Big 12 and ACC teams too much. It's way easier to win those conferences than it is to win the SEC or B1G 10. So good teams are going to end up forced out of contention and weaker teams are going to be handed easier playoff schedules. I wish it were set up so it's the top 4 ranked teams that get the first round bye and then they just reseed after each round. That way we are guaranteed a really good Natty matchup like Georgia and Texas or Ohio State. With these bracket and bye-round rules it becomes far more likely for there to be a Natty mismatch instead of a game that's actually competitive. I want to see Natties with the teams that are actually the best 2 teams in college facing off against each other. Not teams who only got there because of a weaker schedule.

It's blatantly obvious not all conferences are created equal but the playoff rules try to pretend that they are. It would be a more fair and balanced system if every team were treated independent. Sort of like Notre Dame is. I think they actually try to pretend Notre Dame is an ACC team even though they aren't. It would a better product if every team were that way. Or even if they just made a super conference made up only of teams that are playoff eligible and then have those teams only face off against each other during the regular season and balance the schedules as much as possible. That would make every game more interesting than these games where teams face off against other teams who aren't even playoff eligible. The playoffs are more important and a much bigger money maker than the conference championship games are. IMO the goal should be to make the playoffs as good as possible even if it diminishes the conference championships a little. Not make the playoffs worse just to artificially attach importance to a couple conference championships. I mean... Imagine if these rules existed last season and then imagine if a star player like JJ McCarthy got injured right before the Big 10 conference championship and Michigan lost as a result. Then Iowa would've made the playoffs. Seriously? And not only would Iowa have made the playoffs but even worse they would automatically get ranked in the top 4 and get a first round bye. Even worse imagine if FSU had actually lost their conference championship game last season due to all their injuries. Then the team FSU faced in the ACC championship last season would automatically have been ranked in the playoffs as a top 4 team in college. That's just absurd and it makes the playoffs terrible. It would make the 2nd round of the playoffs a joke. Playoffs are much better when the cream is allowed to rise to the top. I want to see a playoffs where only the best 12 teams make it. I want to see a 2nd round where only the best 8 teams are remaining. Playoffs should be very hard competitive games where the games get progressively more difficult every round for every team. That is how you end up with great matchups all around, even better 2nd round matchups, 3rd round matchups that are even better than that, and then finally the best possible matchup and game to watch as the National Championship every single year. To me that's a lot more important and entertaining than making sure teams get a pat on the back for winning a relatively unimpressive conference.

I'm not surprised Boise State gave Oregon trouble, because I looked on Winsipedia earlier in the week, and apparently Oregon had never beaten Boise in three previous attempts. This was their first win in the series. And all their meetings were 2008 and later, so we're not talking about pre-Phil Knight Oregon teams from when the program lacked powerful recruiting. NAU looked so much bigger than Arizona, so that could explain some of their struggles early on.

A couple of questions: 1. How many turnovers have taken place this year? 2. How many penalty yards have been assessed this year? I do not have scientific data on that, but it seems like there is a ton more turnovers thus far than traditionally there is, and it also seems like there is a ton of penalties being handed out I am curious if it is symptomatic of having teams with a bunch kf hired guns and not bought into the discipline and culture of a program Curious if the quality of college football has declined, or if my eyes have decieved me Thoughts?

OSU was supposed to play Washington but Washington joined the Big 10 so they had to reschedule real quick. They have played Notre Dame, Oklahoma, and USC out of conference recently and will be playing Georgia in a year or 2. Top to bottom or at the top? Was the ACC the best the years Clemson won it? I don't think so. I personally measure it from top to bottom, but deciding who had the best conference last year has zero to do with LSU winning it a few years ago like you are trying to do. It also doesn't change the fact that georgia and alabama have been dominating and carrying the conference for about a decade, outside of LSU one year. My point will probably be moot from now on anyway, with Texas and Oklahoma joining. The depth now is one that probably will give them both the dominance at the top and depth in the middle.

The defense ISU faced Saturday will be the best one they face all year. Should they be ranked now (escaping with the win) probably not. But they will have a record at the end of the year that says otherwise.....they only play 2 ranked big 12 teams.

You can’t tell me that plays like Jayden Higgins’ touchdown or Jaylin Noel’s 130 odd yards were because Iowa’s defense choked.
