100%. I watch a good variety of sports(Soccer, Football, Basketball, little UFC) and it seems like officiating has just gotten worse and worse in the past 15 years across all sports. I knew when Tom Brady got that season ending injury in 2009 and the rules changed because of him that football would never be the same. Helmet to helmet hits are bad yes. Glad those are gone. But at the end of the day, these players are playing a contact sport.

It is the most heartbreaking loss I have experienced as a Gamecock, and we are familiar with tough times. We needed this win badly, for Beamer, the program and the rest of the season. It has left me gutted knowing that the game was ultimately decided by some dude with a striped shirt on. There were 16 points scored by Carolina that were called back in the game. Not saying Carolina was going to lose, but simply saying that you simply can't let one bad call (there's always one in every game) be the cause of complaint. I’ve been a South Carolina fan my entire life. I’m used to losing I don’t like it but I’ve developed thick skin to Carolina football, but I haven’t been as mad at a game as I was Saturday. That game was stolen from Carolina. Both teams got screwed but every time Carolina looked like they make stick the dagger in a flag flew. It got so bad that I was guessing correctly before the flag was thrown. I don’t mind losing but not like that not when we were the better team.

They can review Targeting.... it can be reviewed by a call from upstairs. The Oregon call also initially included Targeting. The Targeting was thrown out, but a penalty cannot be reviewed??? WHY?? When Targeting was an error, the entire call should be looked at! at a minimum! Change that rule!! I hate the stoppages as much as anyone, but when a bad call can change a game, to much is at stake not to make them reviewable and correct. Are we afraid of hurting the official's ego?

I’m glad you brought this up Josh. It’s like college football officiating has gone the way of professional wrestling. Calling penalties differently against both squads during the same game?? Not calling blatant penalties? Reversing textbook targeting calls where both receiver and DB were injured? It’s like the officials are incentivized to make calls against one team and not the other. It’s turned into WWE.

Josh try this on for size. After each game, the white hat meets with 3 members of the media, one from a media outlet aligned with each team, one from national. The meeting is not televised or broadcast but it is on the record. Make officials answer for these horrible calls. My prediction is there would be much more huddles of officials after plays to get it right. It goes like this…. “Murphy you called a roughing the passer?” “Yes I did ref Johnson.” “Murphy, they just showed on a screen larger than my house that the QB was holding the ball against his chest and never raised the ball to throw it. I have a meeting with the media after this game….care to join me or maybe we pick up the flag?” “There is no foul for roughing the passer. 2nd down.”

Bama and UGA didnt play in the reg season for 12 yrs prior to their last reg season game vs each other just a couple yrs ago ffs! Everyone knows the SEC is a joke besides the collection of talent. Not an LSU fan in the least but if we're going to make the claim that that game was "decided" by taking back the pick six you'd have to also negate the blocked punt. There has been a specific effort to call a penalty when players "leap the shield" and leave their feet over the protection shield which was clearly done and resulted in a touchdown for South Carolina. Goes both ways. Also just make the kick. Lol.

Josh, the Oregon hit on McCoy was not only flagged for roughing, but also for TARGETING. After review, they overturned the targeting, but not the roughing. Why? Cuz the way the rule is written, they can't overturn both. So, even though they knew it was wrong, they enforced the roughing, essentially gifting Oregon State their second TD!

13 penalties for 123 yards and another 125 yards called back, with 7 of those called in the 4th quarter, and a plethora of no-calls on LS, 2 pick-sixes called back due to terrible calls had more to do with the loss than anything else. Plus, the SC block of the punt was not illegal according to the ruling from the league office on Monday.
