Same here! I disagree with her... the. Again I rarely agree with her “college” advice considering her experience with college is so limited, and primarily only in the pandemic. As an engineering / STEM major, I have to use pencil and paper for calculations on the DAILY, and At my school they do not accept digital copies of homework. Also, most college students, at least pre-pandemic use backpacks, it’s better weight distribution than a tote bag.

I would still recommend your own set of plates/bowls/silverware/etc. Even in an apartment setting you aren't guaranteed that your roommates will pull their weight with doing dishes, so it's better in my opinion, to have your own so that you know it will get washed regularly. And if you have the space, keep them in your room. My experience might be different from other people's, but keeping all of those things in your room makes it a little less likely that other people will take and use them.
@kitushruti2792

some apartments come with dishwashers and stuff, if you have only one set at your shared apartment, you can wash all of them together, and don't need to 4-5 times (that's more money)
@marisa768
@marisa768 3 жыл бұрын
@@kitushruti2792 But even at that you’d have to let them all get dirty before you can fill and run the dishwasher. It’s just my personal preference, but I see more benefit in having your own set. Everyone can do what makes more sense to them.

@@xeriffe8708 for me it’s the framing of the video. She didn’t call it “things I bought and wished I didn’t” she called it “college items you DON’T need”. If I had watched this video before my first semester as a college student with an extremely strict budget, I would have ended up not buying the things I needed and would have been in a really tough spot when I realized I had spent me school supplies budget on the wrong things. (Not discrediting you Kamri) For me, I took notes in spiral notebooks because it was a lot easier. I felt like I got a lot more distracted and behind when I typed notes. When I physically wrote down my notes, I learned and recalled better. In fact, I had an extra notebook especially freshman year so when I had an important test I could rewrite my notes. It sounds like pain, but actually helped tremendously for me. I stopped doing that later on because my tests turned into papers and presentations. I say when you get to college try out different methods until one sticks. Everybody learns differently, so there isn't one style fits all. Technology fits Kamri and there is nothing wrong with her suggesting it.

For reading for fun, I have semesters I have time to read and times I don't. I'm a Senior, and this year, I have used reading as a coping mechanism just to get off my phone and chill out before going to bed. I also disagree a lot of many of the items. I love my Eddie Bauer backpack I got Freshmen year, I live by my planner, I prefer physical textbooks, pencils over pens, and spiral notebooks so maybe that's the difference there, and for some textbooks, I just suggest talking to other students about if you need the textbook for the course because for many you won't but for some classes you will need to read everything they assign.

I'm third year uni and use most of these... my textbooks aren't available online, so I have to buy them, and for my courses if you don't read them you won't pass. I highlight all the time, have a physical diary since I can stay way more organised. I found that the first year of uni I changed up how I did everything multiple times until I found what combo of online vs physical things worked best for me!

lol I just have to say I feel like some of the things you say are a bit stereotypical, like the whole not having any free time to read books for fun in college? not true. you can easily carve out 30 min before bed for leisure reading, and I know because I'm in college and that's what I do. but love the video!

I think a lot of this is college dependent. I go to college in South GA and have used most of these things! But I also feel like I used most of them pre-COVID when it was in person, its way different now that most things are online.

@abbikelley9302
@abbikelley9302 3 жыл бұрын
@@user-mo9jm8zd8q they charge a fee if you take a test on the last day that it is open to avoid a rush. Ideally, everyone could take it as late as possible so there is more time to study, but that causes long lines and big crowds. So they charge a fee to spread out the times when students come.

graduating high school in a few days and have applied to college. Applying is not the hard part honestly. What I wish I had done was, was make a new email only for the colleges i was applying too so nothing got in the way and i would not miss anything. The hardest thing is getting scholarships(if you didn't apply yourself in hs, like me) and FASFA. Everything after being accepted in to college will be easy bc most colleges have multiple people and buildings to answer questions.

The notebooks I agree with somewhat. I always had a notebook with me when I went to school but I never used them as much as I thought I would. For the not eating ramen or mac and cheese. It was never about the time it was about the lack of funds in my bank account that dictated that meal. Unfortunately, we can't all be rich college students.
