its easy to forget the necessity of understanding your value and story separate from college admissions before starting this process, and i cant echo your sentiments enough about the tragedy of allowing gatekeepers to dictate how we feel about ourselves. i have seen friends paralyzed by this and it breaks my heart. this whole video was really invaluable to me esp the part where the beginning of this process starts w adapting a growth mindset, understanding what we care about and then thinking long term to an even better version of ourselves where we have more contributions in that area of interest to show for. sure it’s not a practical step but when you mentioned it i felt this pressure to not waste any more time pursuing topics i don’t genuinely enjoy (i’ve been back and forth considering switching majors for a better fit after my first semester, it feels like im forcing myself to enjoy mechanical engineering) thank you, joel! 🙏

Thank you for your awesome advice, Joel! One question, even though you once mentioned stats are dumb and not that important, is it okay if you can open a little bit about it since it's also a crucial part in our application process? Thanks again for your enormous effort in making this entirely long process easier for transfers like us, Joel!

Yes, absolutely. Let me know what you were thinking and I can make a quick video!

@@theonlyjoelj Yes! Maybe about your stats and ECs that you mentioned in your application to Stanford and other schools as you've mostly covered all of these other aspects already?

@@quynhanhdo5758 Okay yeah, I can go into a bit more depth, but here's a a quick summary for you - 33 ACT, 3.6-ish transfer GPA, < 3.0 High School GPA (I had a 60th percentile SAT score in High School, retook the ACT when I was 22) - ECs: Military stuff, was involved in choir in high school, coached/competed in Olympic-style weightlifting

@@theonlyjoelj Thank you! Can I ask about your 33 ACT percentile?

Hello. I have a question regarding the courses u took during community college. If I remember correctly, Stanford’s website indicated that they have no articulation agreements with colleges, but were there classes u specifically took in community college to help meet the requirements for your intended Stanford major?

also, i would like to ask if i could contact you through email? because of medical reasons, i’ve been having difficulties communicating through video call so i would appreciate it if there was an alternative.

@@ihopjhs5225 We have people join the Zoom sessions and just use chat; you're more than welcome to do that, no need to use Video or Audio! As far as classes go, all of my classes I took while attending the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, while I was in the military, so I had about 73 units of 200/300 level of Arabic that I transferred in, with zero other classes; I clearly expressed that I planned to pursue some kind of neuroscience track (Human Biology, Psychology) despite not having any coursework in that major. I think there might be an underlying concern about whether your transcript makes you look adequately prepared for your declared major, but that's a bit of a monster to address, so I can answer that next (not this upcoming, but the following) Thursday at the session, if you'd like!
