for someone who struggles heavily with anxiety and panic attacks, here's some tips I've learned that helps: -no caffeine/coffee - lavender essential oil in a diffuser (buy cheap on amazon and it'll change your life!) -drink chamomile tea -trade walking on the treadmill for your rigorous workouts a few days a week -start your days' tasks with cleaning/organizing (for example, if you have a list of things to do, clean your room first, then you'll already feel ready to start fresh and take on another task) -warm showers/baths -reading before bed (my therapist said read fiction - no phone and no school books, something like harry potter!) -breathing exercises and yoga. there's a ton on youtube! wishing you peace & happiness. just know you are not alone! :)

I promise the caffeine does not help with your anxiety, think of it like your anxiety and nervous thoughts are dormant just like they are for everyone. Now that you have introduced caffiene into your system it acts like a spark that lights up the dormant nervous thoughts and anxiety. I promise as hard as it is you, if you cut it out you will absolutley notice a difference. I was such a coffee person and drank it black just like you and then I'd notice the more I cut it out slowly, the more my anxiety would not flare up. Try it, what do you have to lose, trust me. I dont want you to have a panic attack 3x a week like me. Stop it before it gets worse. It sucks to be sensitive to caffiene but it's worth cutting that out vs being on edge all the time. Also love u and max yall are literally the same person its absolutley precious

Normally I wait till the end of the vlog to comment but let me pause the vlog real quick to say, you feeling like you’ve been having a hard time getting after it and prioritizing things. Just remember you picked up the camera and vlogged, that’s an accomplishment, you edited and posted the vlog, yet another accomplishment, you worked out & did laundry.. you guessed it, another accomplishment . Sometimes u gotta celebrate the small wins and in the famous words of Taylor “If you do your work it gets done”. Your an accomplished young, driven woman and sometimes you gotta remind yourself of that. Schools is a big stressor, but what I would recommend is trying a new tactic to prioritize your assignments. Maybe so study dates with max. Also life hack if you’re traveling and have access to a washer and dryer where ur staying. Wash and fold toke laundry on your last night so that when u come home you just gotta put the clothes away. Okay I’ll stop now, you’re killing it sister don’t forget that !

I’ve had really bad anxiety in college and doing yoga/meditating for even just a few minutes during the day when I have time helps so much. Also after i cut out caffeine I noticed I was having way less panic attacks and also just going on walks without my phone and just noticing the world around you and taking time out of the day to relax and dedicate to yourself :)

Gretchen, journaling helps me when I am feeling overwhelmed or anxious. I like to do it at night before I go to bed and sometimes write down intentions for the next day to glance at in the morning before you get out of bed :) we all have so many emotions and writing them down helps validate how you felt through the day to sort of work through the anxiety, joy or whatever you were feeling that day and reflect...keep being your beautiful self!

girl I can relate I get so stressed out by everything I have to do! I find it helpful to set timers on my phone throughout the day. I read a quote along the lines of "tasks will fill the time you allow for them" so if you set limits & goals you're more likely to get things done efficiently :)

I graduated college from 2 years ago and I remember that feeling exactly. I have anxiety and on top of that I was constantly stressed and worried about the future. I had to remind myself that everything is going to work out how it’s supposed to, so focus on the now and do it well because that’s the best you can do! Staying positive and surrounding yourself with motivating people helps!!

i can totally relate to when you were talking about being overwhelmed ALL of the time! i always make huge lists that i keep adding things to so it never ends! i found that it helps to make lists that go by days so say okay monday i’ll do my homework and study for one class, tuesday i’ll do my laundry and make time to hang out with someone i haven’t seen in a while! breaking up your big tasks into smaller increments or specific days makes it a lot easier to tackle and feel accomplished! being stressed about things you care about and people you care about is a good thing and shows what a genuinely good heart you have gretchen! you got this girl!!!

Aw Gretchen I completely relate to what you’re going through. I’m a senior in college as well and have been struggling with extreme anxiety. Here are some things that have helped me: no caffeine!!!, omega 3 and vitamin b12 - both help with anxiety and b12 is a natural way to get energy, magnesium tablets help too, working out and eating healthy helps which you already do so that is great, cutting back on alcohol - which sucks as a 22 yr old but definitely makes a difference, and getting 8 hrs of sleep a night is very important

I know exactly what you’re talking about Gretchen. I’ve never been a super anxious person either but this past summer I was extremely overwhelmed all the time from school, sports, friends, etc. I was thinking once my sport season ended I would feel a sense of relief. But I didn’t. And I continued to be stressed about everything, but nothing at the same time? Like you said it’s really hard to explain but it’s just like a weight on your chest all the time. You are NOT alone!! Something that helps me a lot is yoga, meditation, and essential oils. Feeling a sense of inner peace in yoga and meditation gives me a “reset” button for the week. I love you!! This too shall pass ❤️

As someone who has had anxiety for years now and listening to your descriptions of how you are feeling, this could definitely be anxiety. For me, anxiety is when I stress about the things I can’t control or things that aren’t currently affecting but still worrying about them as if they are. I seriously would stress going to see a counselor or therapist which is completely and okay and will help. They can give you a better insight as to why you might be feeling this way and coping mechanisms. We love you GG and only want the best for you!! Mental health IS serious and just as important as physical health❤️

I can completely relate to the anxiety from so much to do, which leads to me shutting down because I don’t even know where to start on my lists. What I found really helps is when I have a big list, to pick like 3 items from the long list and put them on a sticky note right on my computer and put the long list away. Then my goal is the 3 items for that day. It keeps me from getting overwhelmed from looking at the long list and shutting down. Then once I finish those 3, I go back to the long list and do it again. It seems silly but it like tricks my mind into thinking I have less to do so I’m not nearly as stressed. Hang in there girl, just one more semester!

I'm a biggg fan of planning and making lists and have also always struggled with calming down and not getting so worked up over nothing. Two things that my therapist told me that has helped a bit are: -Only keep one list at a time. Consolidate all the things you need to accomplish onto one master list (or calendar, agenda, etc.) so that way you always know the one item at the top of the list that has priority over everything else. -Schedule the fun things too. Block out chunks of time strictly for something that makes you happy. Rather than just having a list full of things that worry you, you'll have things that inspire you, calm you down, and motivate you sprinkled in throughout the day.

For me when I get anxiety “attacks”, the biggest advice my mom gave me is to try to think about thinks that make you happy. And instead of sitting by yourself worrying yourself talk to someone, call them if you need to and when you’ve calmed down start with one think at a time. Also lavender oils really help to calm your nerves down, rub it on the bottom of your feet or mix in a spray bottle with water sprits on your pillow or use a diffuser. I know it’s difficult and seems so hard sometimes but you just gotta rember that everything with calm down again and be less stressful. I hope this helps at least a little 💗💗💗

Another paused-the-vid to comment -- Thanks for sharing Gretchen. I think your feelings of anxiety could stem from knowing how motivated and passionate and a “go getter” type of person you are.. You are such an independent woman, there was a time in your life where you were use to 100% relying on yourself to get all that you needed done. “if you didn’t get to it, it didn’t get done” “if you didn’t think about it, it will get missed” “its all my fault if I forget even the tiniest little detail”. Just remember you have so much control over your life right now (travel, social life, fitness, how you spend your time), you’ve made a conscious decision to make the MOST of your time. That takes a smart mind, and youre awesome for it (not everyone decides to use their time wisely). you decide how happy you are, trust the process that everything will work out. You have a partner in your life; you have decided to share your life with someone special. He is there to help you, and possibly take some of the load off (at times)! :) just remember youre not in this alone. You got this girl! Your momma is right “one thing at a time”

I describe myself as the opposite of a procrastinator because I always worry that I won't enough time later to do things so I try and everything all at once. I'll do my reading for a class on Tuesday right after I have it on Thursday but by the time Tuesday comes I forget all of the material. I definitely have days where I feel like you did that day and I just have to pick one or two things to accomplish and be real with myself that everything will work out.

My mom always says the same thing.. “make a list” lol. Also, it helps to write down everything you have to do tomorrow hours before you go to bed. And then don’t think about it after that. Sounds strange, but it’s supposed to help. Or have a “worry period” where you stress about whatever it is.. like literally set a timer and worry only during that period. And do what you can. say no more. And try to find ways to make the thing you NEED to do easier. :)

I’ve had anxiety since i can remember, for literally zero reason, and the biggest difference came when I cut out caffeine/coffee a few years ago. The only caffeine I’ll do is from tea, but I don’t do it every day, maybe like 1-2x a week. I still do Starbucks bc they have everything available in the decaf version, tastes the same to me now without the useless energy fueling my anxiety and heart rate! I’ve also found in my 20’s that essential oils are so so necessary, along with meditation. I don’t do it daily, but I try to meditate 2-3x a week just to bring me back to center when life gets crazy.

Caffeine won’t help the nerves girlfriend ❤️ I know it’s hard but I struggle with anxiety and take medication for it and I drink coffee and it gets worse. I find myself doing a lot of breathing exercises to calm myself down when I’m overwhelmed. Also being in college is not easy by any means, and it’s almost over for you so it’s like crunch time i feel and that’s why you feel stressed. I promise you’ll make it through! These are all normal feelings. Like your mom said, prioritize the biggest things that are most important and do the little things as they come by. I’m not a fan of yoga but breathing exercises helped me tremendously and I started writing in a gratitude journal! As someone with anxiety I would say caffefine does have both positive and negative effects on me personally. Sometimes I just want coffee and then once i have it, I notice extreme anxiety like my heart racing, shakiness or headaches. But I also notice it without it sometimes as well. I personally like to make coffee sometimes with half almond milk and half of a medium roast. Starbucks has pretty strong coffee, So maybe ask for a lighter roast or something with less caffeine or switch coffee with tea. I was never into tea until I found a peach mango tea with 20 mg caffeine in it! And now Im obsessed it has some caffeine but not enough to make me anxious and shakey. I also get stressed when making lists and what works for me is making one large list for what I need fo get done/achieve over the next week and then break it down by days so it is less intimidating and more manageable. Love you💘💘💘

I totally understand where you are coming from! I feel like you always have a lot going on so it's understandable. I feel like reasons this feeling could be heightened is because of your new found love for coffee?? Because I know in the beginning it made you feel like you were zipping around so that could be fueling that feeling of becoming overwhelmed without you even realizing. BUT i also think you are approaching a time of change with graduating college and important things like that which can cause stress without even realizing that is the cause of it. love you girl and hope the best!

so this is gonna sound crazy to some people, but i have played around with diet and the gut-brain connection. after a lot of trial and error, elimination diet and then adding stuff back in slowly and tracking allergies, inflammatory foods, etc. I have realized that alcohol and gluten really really effect my mental health- anxiety and depression. after a night of binge drinking and partying I am a mess for 4 days or so after that. I gave my body a break, and after 2 months of having both out of my system I am completely more level day to day. what you consume has a huge impact on moods and anxiety!

Aw Gretchen, coming from someone who has extreme anxiety, self-care is so so so important. Make sure that you give yourself some time each day to just focus on you ♥️ read Michelle Obama, do a face mask, do a hair mask, watch a movie alone, paint your toes, etc.

So I also struggle with prioritizing and remembering to take a break which makes my anxiety worse than normal. I found in addition to creating a dated to-do list for the full week or two weeks and then I keep a daily to-done list of all of the things I got done.
