Schools better get their alumni in line when it comes to the NIL money. Once those schools get a reputation of not honoring their promises, they can say goodbye to getting the top recruits.

The rich donors from all schools have a higher percentage to organize and collude to not pay these players more than a certain amount, a salary cap in sort, before these kids exploit these rich boosters. The kids aren't smart, lower morals people, and jealousy and emotions dictate their decisions.

The NCAA has become an inept organization. They have botched the handling of NIL since its inception. Universities should be playing athletes at most they stated scholarship amount. NIL deals should be funded only by private businesses only (no private individuals) that must register each deal with the NCAA. I have no problem with athletes getting paid for their talent, but there should be rules, and the rules should be applied consistently across all universities.

As to the athletes getting taken advantage part, let me remind everyone that the athletes didn't pay any of the operating costs. The athletes don't pay for the buildings, teachers, coaches, uniforms, equipment, etc. There are hundreds of millions of dollars invested in CFB, that the players are spared the cost of, yes, they were not financially compensated, other than free education and some help in said free education that the normal student doesn't get. I am just pointing out the other part of the discussion.
@gc8568
@gc8568 Жыл бұрын
Bro what? Regular tuition from students is more than enough to pay for teacher salaries and other general costs, most college buildings are more often than not donated and named after that person. The profits these schools make from football and basketball heavily outweigh the amount they spend on said sport. And the players who most of them spent their entire lives devoting time and hard work they will never get back into at a slight chance at playing professionally are having their imagine and likeness used to bring these schools massive profits and they aren’t seeing a dime. Imagine if you were working as hard as these kids making your bosses millions and you see none of that money.

@@gc8568 Tuition from regular students is NOT enough for teachers' salaries, much less maintenance on regular buildings. That is one reason we pay taxes, have endowments, and state trust funds. This is why there is polarization in America, no one wants to consider all aspects of the conversation. At no time did I not say athletes weren't entitled to NIL, nor did I say they were, I simply pointed out the obvious fact they don't have to make the rather large financial investment the schools & states are to reap the benefits.

CONTRACTS. There has to be a universal NIL contract and everything hashed out in the contract. A standardized NIL contract would bring together 2 parties rather than individual contracts by companies. The universities could insist and the NCAA require the universal contract to be used or and if not the player is in violation of NCAA rules of accepting money without said contract. In case of default by those promising money, would in fact be in very big trouble legally and automatically forced into, not normal expensive litigation, but a compliance judge . This actually would be a good way for the NCAA to protect the kids from scams and defaults. It could over time be modified as needed to adapt to fraud issues etc.

Transferring doesn’t mean they not gonna work hard at the new school, they are limited in their time to showcase their talents to be drafted by the NFL. Are they supposed to waste time at a school who probably isn’t utilizing them the way they were promised during the recruiting visits.

The present structure they are using will be seriously injurious to the NCAA. They need to take the time and expense to set it up as trust funds or monies held in escrow until said athlete leaves said school. But then theres the question of who will pay for these services and how etc etc. Also, theres the envy factor of other less talented "low funded" athletes etc. Its like the Wild Wild West. It even leaves room for organized crime to easily get involved and influence games etc.The whole thing just seems to be a big mess.

The portal has opened the door for the players which is good..but when over 1000 players, prolly 2000 btt it's done, are switching schools, there is something wrong with the whole system. Then some players getting $$$ others nothing?? For whomever markets themselves better, with under the table deals, and basically bribes, to get any top talent these days? There has to be integrity as well as player opportunity and a structured pay scale wirn a cap and strict oversight and penalties harsh enough to deter massive corruption, and severely unfair advantages to the schools whom can shell out the most $$$.. it will seriously tarnish their reputation, brand, and the ncaa for not thinking the whole thing thru!

These athletes are adults. In the world if an adult has a talent that is desired by entities, they compete for that talent. The only reason the status of amateur exists is to prevent the competition from taking place. It still happened before NIL. The big schools put on ridiculous shows, brought in celebrities and pros, and wined and dined these athletes. If in year two that athlete blows out a knee and ends their career then the ride is over. The school carries no obligation. Most of these athletes, not all, are physically gifted and are using that talent to get ahead in life, much the same as a person that is incredibly mentally gifted would. The schools these athletes play for have made BILLIONS, with a B from the fans that come to see the team play. If they were consistently losing because the best athletes went other places, their revenue would take a substantial hit. Had any of these schools just come together years ago and decided to put together plans to guarantee the financial futures of their athletes none of this would be happening right now. Instead, they took the billions, shared none with the talent that earned them the billions, and are now complaining that the talent no longer wants to be milked. They have fought to ensure that none of these athletes can go straight into the NFL were the money is so they more or less have to funnel through the college football grindhouse and prey they stay healthy enough to earn income afterwards. No other system exists like this in America. The fans seem to be taking this out on the athletes for things not being like they used to be, but it is the fault entirely of the universities refusing to make any changes until the dam burst.

That App St. lost was a wake up call, they tried to right the ship but it was too late, no way you are gonna be a playoff team after that home loss. It seemed after the Arkansas game the defense was like fend for yourself, if you can't score 4 TDs a game, we are not winning, I am not getting hurt for you, the NFL is waiting for me, stick that NIL up your crank. Most of us all went to college, funds was hard to get for most of us who paid our own way living with roomies or dorm, these kids seeing all those digits dump in their bank accounts, what a shock, some probably got hungry for more and did not get it so, production down. Can you imagine what Jimbo was going through, losing 6 straight, your SEC team has issues. Has anyone here been to Kyle Stadium, over 90K capacity, it's football country, there is nothing else around there but pine trees and bible thumpers, oh man they love their football. Maybe Chris Marshall stopped getting paid in November due to what happened in South Carolina in October. Did he and his buddy Denver really think they could continually violate team rules and university policy with no repercussions whatsoever? At the end of the day, Marshall, and Harris, agreed to an under the table without any form of legally binding contract and then they were dumb enough to get suspended from the team. Sure, it’s sleazy for A&M to stop paying them what they were promised, but they kind of dug their own grave on that one. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

If you want it to be the "old way" then pressure the institutions stop jumping conferences, trying to make millions via the athletic teams. In that way you could get back to the student athlete ideal..

Everything is broken and needs to be sorted out. It's clear that these compensated athletes are now employees of the schools they play for and either the courts or the legislatures have to recognize that. Then there will come collective bargaining and some form of base compensation for everyone and written contracts for the star recruits. The question is how many years will it take to get there?

Who says the athletes were taken advantage of back in the old day?. A free education is never taking advantage of anyone. PERIOD!! Maybe for those who are taking advantage of the University just to get a free education and free publicity through the university for possible NFL spot. University taking advantage of the kids, WTF? Scholarships for unproven kids is reward enough. They don't deserve to be paid when they are getting a free education. This is the main reason why sports athletes are so soft compared to the players in the olden days. Flag football for the quarterbacks.

Matt, maybe if they didn't give them such large amounts would help the situation. Giving an eighteen yr old two million dollars, when the most that most of them have ever had in their pocket or bank acct was maybe $200 - $500 at any given time, just seems irresponsible to me. Plus the company (or whoever) would be more willing and able to pay them what they've been promised if the amounts were about 1/2 the amount they are now getting promised. Just a thought.

This is true, i just think that they all need lawyers/advisors/agents provided to them because they are clearly taking adv of the players, but if you're gonna play the capitalist game as a player you need advisors, guardians and stuff to help you not get fucked over

MattBeDumb Why would Chris Marshall or Denver Harris continue to receive NIL money when they were suspended indefinitely (for breaking team rules) since early November? As far as most of the other Aggies in the portal, they are upperclassmen that were beaten out by freshmen at their position.

This is why I say the NIL needs contracts, it’s inevitable there has to be contracts to protect these kids and the schools. With contracts it’ll force the companies to pay these kids what was agreed to and it will also protect the business so the kids can’t just agree to 2 mil play a season and jump in the portal, I don’t blame kids for doing it right now, they can but it’s gonna stop it has to. I also think a portion of NIL money should go into a pool to be divided by all the players so everyone is getting some money, say 10% of all deals goes into a fund and is divided up to all players, the other 90% that player keeps for himself. Just my thoughts on it. I do miss the old college football, of course then they had to pay these kids cause if they didn’t the kid rats them out cause it was illegal, lol. I miss the importance of bowl games and I don’t like opting out of games, but I fully understand why kids do it and if I’m in there shoes I prob would to.

Any school that gives a player an NIL deal should have the right to require their employee I mean player to play the entire season including bowl games and maybe even minimum 2-3 years

Thats insane! I never thought about that before. So basically all of the rules of about Alumni Ethics and under the table payments and incentives are no more. Players will go to whoever puts the most beans on the table. I used to shade slightly in favor of the NIL...but this changes it for me. Its disgusting. IF you wanna be pro...go on leave early go pro and get paid. If you want a college education and the chance to mature to the next level work hard and play ball.

I'm sure a lot of these businesses are tiny little LLCs or some other corporate entity that are formed to funnel money through to pay a player. As soon as that player isn't preforming as well as the booster wants they dissolve the "buisness" and then good luck recovering any funds from defunct buisness.

In reference to these players signing NDA’s, I would think that once the sponsor stopped paying the NIL money the contract/agreement has been broken so the NDA is no longer enforceable. I’m also shocked that these kids don’t have family that would give the smallest amount of guidance and recommend they obtain an attorney prior to making an NIL agreement. I don’t want to hear these kids come from poor cities or parts of the country. If these kids can read and understand an extremely complicated playbook they should definitely know they need a lawyer when it comes to million dollar deals. When the checks stop coming in, the athlete should refuse to play until is NIL agreement is honored.

the NIL market will correct itself if the Free Market is left to work over the next few years. NIL is NOT payment for playing but payment for Name, Image, Likeness. Also it is supposed to be paid by outside entities such as businesses that want the player(s) to endorse a product or even the player being able to sell their autograph, memorabilia, etc. The Supreme Court ruled that there is no limit to what a person can get via that, whether they are a amateur athlete, pro athlete or average Joe on the street. When entities realize that paying High Schoolers exorbitant sums with no expectation that their investment will "pay off", the numbers will begin to back off to realistic dollars.

Here's what I don't understand is why has it always been ok for coaches to move on to new opportunities which pay them more money but the players are held to higher standards, they were forced to sit out a year if they chose to leave for a better opportunity. Sounds like double standards to me under the old system. Time for these athletes to understand playing college football is a business get yourself a reputable attorney and sue the university.

a "character issue" is a judgement based on what you know about a person that would show A PROPENSITY (THE FUTURE) to create a tangible problem. Like... whatever Dashawn Watson was into in Houston that Cleveland was actually cool with. Or what Peyton Manning did at Tennessee that the Colts were ok with and the entire NFL was ok with covering up later on when his HCG usage became public. Therefore you can't spell it out before they're even drafted, it hasn't happened yet.

They need to put a cap on all NIL deals. The same amount across the board. This will stop the bribing at bigger universities. This way players are getting paid and it levels the playing field for recruiting. Makes it like the old days but they are getting paid
@babybison2881
@babybison2881 Жыл бұрын
They should only pay guys based off their revenue generated from jersey sales and ticket sales. Teams should have to rank their most valued players (assets) in a tiered system. So if you're deemed more valuable and a bigger draw, you get a bigger cut of the profits. Outside of that, no kid should be paid to play in college, unless the university is making millions off of them. Which is like 5 kids each year.

There should be a base salary for players all over the ncaa for every player. Regardless of stars, position. Then they can get their own independent deals. This is going to ruin recruiting and teams if these players just transfer after 1-2 years
