Vikings: Valhalla’s David Oakes on Playing a Character Like Alan Rickman From Die Hard

David Oakes is such a magnificent performer that he's been in almost all the best series. Almost all my favorite ones. The Borgias is my fave, Pillars of the Earth, The White Queen, Victoria, and I know I've seen him in more. Now he's in Vikings Valhalla. His parents must be so proud, as they should be. Wasn't he in Versailles too? WAY TO GO DAVID.

He plays Juan Borgia and George Duke of Clarence as well but essentially the same psychopath as pillars of earth. It’s nice that in Vikings he gets to play an impressive man rather than just a cruel and grasping one.

I’m just happy he got to play an important character who isn’t a psychopath. He did a good job with Juan Borgia and George Clarence and William of Shiring. But Godwin of Wessex gives him an opportunity to be both ruthless clever and Machiavellian but also likable and capable. As Borgia Clarence and William he was just greedy cruel and not very capable at all. I like him as an actor and I’m happy to see him as a character who’s talent is worth his skill as an actor.
