100 percent. I was a bit disappointed there’s so few extras on the blu Ray. I’d happily watch a 3 hour film with hours of behind the scenes stuff.

My favorite story about Guillermo Del Toro is that the young Japanese actress in Pacific Rim was embarrassed about having trouble saying his name so he told her she could call him Totoro (from the Ghibli movie My Neighbor Totoro).

That final shot! It's what drew me back into the theater to see it again, to buy the novel, and watch it a third time on streaming. Aristotle said for a plot to be satisfying it must have a climax that is both shocking and inevitable. When I first heard that idea, I thought it was nonsensical. How could an inevitable ending be also surprising. Mr Del Toro pulled that off perfectly.

A marvellous man who has produced some of the finest cinema, Nightmare Alley was fabulous.
@LACITYFILMS2 жыл бұрын
I have watched this video over 50 times while in Film Directing School and scored a production scholarship from the Hollywood Foreign Press and now I’m preparing to submit to Oscar qualifying film fest; short film category. This interview saved my film from cliches and inspired me to reinvent the genre. I studied Del Toro’s Noir philosophy extensively during the development, pre production, production and post production. I could not find a clear Noir definition from professors so I adapted Del Toro’s philosophy to produce a period piece that speaks to an audience of today; it’s notions, themes and anguish and anxieties are all jammed packed on my film. I am quoting Del Toro from this interview and giving credit to Collider Interview, 12.21.2021. I also sent an indirect thank you Del Toro’s publicists. Keep up the great work - and I’ll keep you posted. JS

Great job on the questions. You could tell Guilllermo had new flashes of energy and inspiration and even joy as he came up with his answers. The original film was excellent, but GDT brought so much to this remake.
@kiiinnndddaaa2 жыл бұрын
Really good questions here. If I can offer 1 small piece of feedback it’s that his answers are rarely met with any commentary or empathy, as you would in a normal conversation. There is a moment where instead of asking a question you give real commentary/reaction to what he said and then he elaborated and said more…that is good evidence that the format should not just be question-answer-question-answer where the only commentary is “100% - next question” …anyway just a tip, keep up the good work!

I loved the nuance of relief in the end scene. Yet, i also liked th biblical punishment. Stanton indulges in all his desires: all the sins. Greed, obiosuly, but also lust, wrath and pride. I liked the given that he couldve escaped his fate had he made other choices. He didnt wanna end up being the drunken sunken old men, but he did. Yet, if he had made other choices, if he didnt take out his anger on old men, id he hadnt indulge in such greed, maybe he didnt end up like his father. Yet he does end up like his father and all the other drunks in the movie, because he makes the same choices. And thus, ist not so much about punishment, its about choices, fate, and karma.
