At 15:10 I meant to say and write -0.9 degrees celsius and not 0.9 degrees celsius.

9:00 why are finding Boiling point using the formula of elevation in boiling point?
@campbeja0015 жыл бұрын
More correct: Colligative properties depend on concentration of solute but don't depend on identity of solute not "type" as you wrote since ionic compounds ionize (i > 1) and covalent compounds do not (i=1)

How can you express enthalpy change for chemical reaction?
@iqraurooj65168 жыл бұрын
on start of this lecture; You said that THEY DONT DEPEND ON THE TYPES OF CHEMICAL SPECIES PRESENT. and then you explained that lowering of v.p would be greater in case of sugar, if 1 mole each of sugar NaCl and K2S.
@TheSharingarMaster7 жыл бұрын
They depend on the molar CONCENTRATION of the chemical species present not the the type or the nature of the solute. Let me explain: 1 mole of C12H22O11(Sugar) dissolves in water to give 1 mole of dissolved sugar. (it does not dissociate or seperate) .1 mole of NaCl give you 1 mole of Na and 1 mole of Cl in solution to a total of 2 moles of ions. 1 mole of K2S dissolves in water to give 2 moles of K ions and 1 mole of Sulfur to a total of 3 moles of ions. 3>2>1 so K2S provides a greater depression(lowering) in freezing point and a greater elevation in Boiling point. Balanced equation of dissociation of K2S: K2S ---h20---> 2K (aq) + S (aq) مفهوم انشالله :D

What happen to the boiling point of water when sucrose is added?
The 1st freezing point problem should be -0.9 C and not 0.9 degrees.
@mmoose36733 жыл бұрын
Alright, but this doesn't explain why the boiling point would change, only that it does and that it depends on moles of dissolved particles
@mmoose36733 жыл бұрын
I did a bit of research. Turns out that, on the surface of the water, the more room taken up by the solute, the less room for the water to enter the gas phase. So at each temperature less vapor is coming off the liquid and the vapor pressure is lower. It then requires a higher temperature to bring the vapor pressure up to match the atmospheric pressure.
