I would actually use this machine so much more often than I would ever touch a 3D printer (although I would need enclosures for all of the projects this would help me create; still I must prioritize!) For any current owners, can you comment on its ability to engrave on materials such as plexiglass and metals? It'd be nice if the software wasn't Mac only but I think I can still make a sell to getting one of these for our hobbyist group since it seems amazingly versatile.

Really awesome video, thanks for taking the time to create these. How difficult would it be to make a DIY soldermask for that PCB? Could you use the milling machine to cut a stencil out of some material? Or maybe use something like a vinyl cutter?

Great video demonstrating PCB milling comparable to LPKF etc., but I think the holy grail is in traditional photolithography with resolution allowing fine traces reliably at 10 micron and below. The elements to process boards I’ve been collecting for several years as it’s very hard to find anything at reasonable cost second hand, so far I have a new in the box Korean GMP Photonex-sync235 laminator with 4 internally heated silicon rollers that ensure even heat distribution of DuPont risten film laminated boards, and a Kinsten KVB30D Double Sided Vacuum UV Exposure Box. The last and critical element I’m still searching is a good Photoplotter from Bungard or Fortex, however these are selling new around $10,000 much more than the few hundred I found the other tools for so I’m wondering with all the new high quality X-Y axis and laser machines coming onto market from all over the world why there hasn’t been any entry into laser raster film photoplotters that can produce fine detail solid ink black circuit art transparencies yet? I really don’t want to tape lesser transparencies together that would defeat the fine detail trace ability I want to have. Has anyone made one of these or is there a tear down video that might show how one could be built?

You should look into Voronoi toolpaths, there is a java app called visolate which will generate them, they are much faster for mechanical etching. If you ignore the bad music caused by my indiscretion in background music you can see a run I did a few years back.

You don't have to buy that exact machine... Be smart and look around for similar, most likely cheaper, but still useable machines on Ebay or Amazon. There are dirt cheap chinese cnc-machines for about 180$ on Ebay. The one in the link has a laser for engraving as well. These are good enough for making circuit boards. www.ebay.com/itm/Mini-CNC-1610-500mw-laser-CNC-engraving-machine-Pcb-Milling-wood-router-/222513260008?hash=item33ced2e5e8:g:U6YAAOSwSlBYy6BF

awesome product, but realistically, how many average people out there are gonna drop over 2 grand for a device that has a very specific and limited use? Not to mention that it only works on with a mac. You gotta be making a LOT of boards to justify something like that. With the proliferation of 3D printers out there now, one could make their own for a fraction of $2200. Drop the price and add PC compatibility, and you'll have better acceptance.

But what about dust that you get in the end, if you use it regularly at home for example? What if it gets in the air in large amount? I mean, is it safe?
@superdau
@superdau 9 жыл бұрын
Glass fiber dust, especially the really fine one, is actually pretty bad stuff. It can give you something called silicosis (not from rare exposures though; it's more of a workplace hazard). The whole milling machine seems to be encased while working, so you should be fine if you just vacuum it afterwards. I don't know if the bearings inside are that lucky though. The glass fiber dust can kill them pretty fast if they aren't built to keep the fine dust out.
@jorenmartijn
@jorenmartijn 9 жыл бұрын
It has a glass pane that can be removed. During operation it is placed back so the dust doesn't escape. Afterwards you can just vacuum the dust. Look at the beginning of the video, he removes the pane but it's rather quick.
