Thanks for doing the comparison. Great delivery too!

I thought your comment was "so much more expressive" ;-) Collings does win here - stunning.

All three sound great to me.

The Collings wins hands down. I own two Collings soco's, incredible guitars. I also own a PRS hollowbody spruce, IMO that is the best sounding of the PRS hollowbody lineup.

I own the Carvin 575 and just love it. Everyone has that Gibson sound and I wanted something different that had more customized options. I have to admit with this video the Collins sounds the best though it cost over $1,000 more than the Carvin. I liked the PRS the least.

The body on the Collings is somewhat larger than the PRS body, and a larger body has more acoustic output in the low end, and this transfers via the pickups. I own a 335 style and a 339 style and the 335 is larger and has a fuller (more bass) output .

Also, in the chain of guitar and amp, the amp is way more significant in the final tone than the guitar in most cases

Thanks so much for this demo. I'm curious about your mixing piezo and magnetic on the Carvin. From what I can tell, the guitar doesn't do this on-board: the two 1/4" jacks are completely separate, one for piezo, one for mag. How did you mix? Did you have to use the 13-pin connector and an external unit? Or does the SH575 actually do it on-board and out one of the 1/4" jacks?

the 13 pin midi out needs a separate unit for midi controls, like the roland fc-300 as for the 1/4" jacks on the Carvin/Kiesel, there are two outputs (1 magnetic, 1 piezo) and a 3 way switch that turns the piezo on, off, or on WITH the magnetic pickups. the on position sends the signal to the dedicated piezo output, that you can send to a separate amp or DI signal not affiliated with the magnetic output. the off position turns it off (obvi) and the BOTH position sends the piezo signal out of the MAIN MAGNETIC JACK along with the s22 magnetic pickups, so you can mix the signal through one amplifier. you can also roll off the volume on your magnetic pickups and use the piezo by itself through the main output jack into your amp in the BOTH position, if you dont have access to a separate amplifier or FOH line. while this is doable, i would HIGHLY recommend buying a DI box, or an acoustic simulator/enhancer, and running a separate signal with the piezo, so you dont have to deal wth your amps distortion or all the tap dancing.

If you have the piezo on the 'on' position can you have the piezo going to one amp and the humbuckers going to another at the same time?

Did you have the acoustic (piezo) pickup on during your first set of chord demos for the PRS? If you did then that might not be a good comparison tonally.

Fantastic - what amp? I have Lollar Imperials in a PRS and I find they are very bright - not the case with the Collings. Wondering if the amp makes that much difference.
@rmGuera11 жыл бұрын
And it's very possible that he tried lollar low winds (made for brighter h-buck tone). Collings has Imperials (not low nor high wind) and yes - Carvin & PRS offer more, but the quality of tone alone in Collings is where my money goes. Instead of variety - dynamics in chosen tone is what wins (me).

Nice tone. Collings win. But twice the price of the other two. I wonder if its a prs scj go head to head with the collings thou.

Carvin sounds best for me. The Collings seems to have slightly better resonation, but its a bit thin at the top end for my taste. And the PRS must be fake - just kiddin :)

+András Cséfalvay I agree.. PRS sounds like a cheap piezo pickup? I hope there's something wrong in the review...
