I have been following the magpies for over 40 years. Question: were you at the 1958 Grand Final against the Demons? No? Neither was I. I was only 6 years old. I met Ron Barassi in 1961 when he came to our under 10s McKinnon Demons training one night. He would have been about 26/27 years old. I still remember Alan Didak kicking a 65 metre torp hard up on the boundary line at the G toward the city end back in 2010. He bounced the ball from the backline with no Carlton player coming anywhere near him until he launched this 'barrel ' 15 metres outside the 50 metre line. It went through for an unbelievable goal. 72 000 people said " ya gotta be kidding me" I reckon the coach Mick Malthouse would have muttered something under his breath " bloody smartarse " Gonna be at the G this Sunday to watch our boys take on the poncy swans.
