Here in Poland, I have successfully overwintered Colocasia 'Pink China' twice and Colocasia gigantea once. Plants were mulched with approx. 30 cm layer of pine needles, wood chips and their own leaves. Probably such measures were unnessesary in case of 'Pink China' because in the spring some of its pups emerged just next to the mound that was intended to protect it. The lowest temp during that time was about -12°C, during week-long non-stop frost. My Musella and Musa basjoo experienced the same conditions and also survived. Love your videos, keep posting!

Thank you. Pink China is one of the hardiest Colocasia so nice to hear it’s survived for you. Did you protect you Musa Basjoo?

@@tikitropicals65 Yes, I did. I forgot to mention that bananas were protected in the same way as colocasias.

Cheers. Hopefully we get a prolonged bit of summer heat soon. That will really help them more than anything.

Thank you for that knowledge . My colocasias pink china plugs are doing better since I now know how delicate they are . They are basking on my window ledge , growing beautifully. Totally love these plants 🪴 😍

Your welcome. The summer heat should help them grow well now.

Thanks for thr tips. It makes complete sense. I have had a Colocasia redemption sat in water and was wondering why it was taking so long to grow. Silly really, must have slowed it down! Thanks for the recent video on Jersey Cottage nursery. I am planning a visit later in the summer, looks fantastic. Cheers, Neil.

Great advice. I would love to have a bigger collection, but do not have any where to over winter them. I'll have to stick to the usual hardy ones for now.

Thank you. They are great plants but lots of them can be a pain in winter without the correct care.

I’m new to tropical gardening & love your vids - I know this sounds a bit weird but I would like to see what you look like, you never show your face like others do & it would be nice to put a face to your voice :0)

Hi and thank you. Actually it’s not weird and I understand what you mean. I’ve actually tried doing videos with me in them and I’ve just cringed that much I couldn’t do it. Making the videos is out of my comfort zone and it took me a while to get used to listening to my own voice. It may be something I’m more comfortable with in the future. I also wanted the channel to never be about me it was always meant to be the gardens, the plants and the design. Cheers

Hi. If it’s a good size you should be fine but if it’s small it may struggle if it doesn’t get warm days and nights. Cheers

Thanks for the great tips. Don't know why I didn't think to water with warmer water!! What do you feed them and how often? Thanks.

Thank you. The warm water trick really helps with smaller plants once they get bigger they are more resilient. Feeding them depends on size and how warm it is. If it summer and they are actively growing then I will often put the potted ones in a tray of water and drop a couple of chicken pellets in the water so it becomes soluble and gives them a constant supply of feed. If you’re using a multipurpose liquid feed probably every week as they are hungry plants. Honestly it’s a bit of trial and error and theirs no one answer fits all. In general if warm they are hungry. Cheers.

A wide range of plants can do well in pots but they would require watering and feeding more unless arid plants. Palms like Chamaerops Humilis and Cordylines give evergreen colour. Mediterranean plants like lavenders would be fine. Honestly the list is huge it just depends on how much care or protection you can give them.
