I've missed ever looking into this ship, and I'm glad I did now - as someone who loves support cruisers, this isn't one you should miss.

Tier 9's of many lines are generally skipped cuz their very similar to tier 10 or tier 8 and many just jump from tier 8 to reivewing the tier 10 but the tier9 santander is a special one from the pic, thanks terry for reviewing ships like thesw!

T9 matchmaking can be really tricky, mainly because of the BB calibre jump. In a T8 ship, you'll very rarely see anything beyond 16'', whereas in a T9, you'll get shot at by 18'' on a regular basis. For cruisers, there's often a playstyle switch - Roon is an extreme example, or Neptune - which prepares you for how the T10 needs to be played, e.g. Hipper works best in brawls, but Hindi is a ranged asset mostly. As such, T9 plays can be hard, because you get thrown into new playstyles, with ships that are often distinctly weaker than their T10 progression, but you're facing T10 opposition.

This thing citadels like crazy when the combat instruction is active. I unlocked the San Martin but wasn't willing to move my single captain over to it as Santander is so entertaining.

I often have a "secondary" captain that's training on a particular ship outside T10 that I enjoy. I've got a 12-point Mino captain from the original grind, but I'm training another one on the Neptune, just because. Sejong and this one are similar situations.

@@FunandGameswithTerry That's just it, i only have a single Pan American captain currently as i'm cheap. Still, I just had another great Santander game so not complaining.

Thanks a million Terry, much appreciated. I have unlocked the ship and yet to play it. Current blitz pass has shamrock camo with 100% XP bonus so started the Riga grind for petro, it's soul destroying. Anyway wishing you an early Happy st Patrick's Day from Dublin. Just a heads up, i expect to be harping at you for a Japanese Tier9 CL review in the future. Hope you are on the mend and your playing health indicator is going into the Green.

Thanks, I shall put a note on the backlog for the Takahashi :) Health is still hit & miss, learning to live with it and find a balance that works. And my commiserations for the Petro grind. I am professedly not a fan of Petro, as it feels like having all the drawbacks of a battleship without any of the benefits. Maybe the hitbox changes they made in the last update will have done something, but I'm not willing to get into that thing if I don't have to.

I do like the sonar / radar double whammy you get on the USN CLs from Cleveland onwards, it's such a fun play to see DDs go on brown alert. Plus, the USN gun arcs allow for nasty over-the-island HE spam easily. But these things are fun, too - I feel they're a bit weaker in terms of armour than their American counterparts, but that may just be a misconception.
