In Nigeria we call this meat pie and it’s filled with beef or chicken and veggies like potatoes and carrots. Some add onions finely minced too and then it’s thickened with a slurry. It’s really really good

I’m gringo and when I stayed in Colombia for a year I HAD to learn how to make empenadas . It’s a lot of work,but they taste amazing and now everyone in the states ask me to make empenadas for them all the time :)

I spent a year traveling through South America. Loved empanadas from every region. A great convenience food--snack--especially for trips. I personally prefer oven baked empanadas. I feel they are harder to make...because they can get really dry if not done right.

Can someone tell me why the first empanada and the winning empanada has the little white specs in them? They said it was fresh corn, does that mean they ground it themselves? The ones with the white bits look so good and were super crispy.

When I use cornflour for porridge sometimes it clumps so so parts aren’t as well blended/ cooked Its probably the same thing when frying

It depends where it is prepared, in my house we cook white corn, grind it and then add salt and a little turmeric and knead it.

No need to be a hater, They meant beef .... Empanadas are either made with chicken or ground beef. The thing is that they are thinking in spanish. In Spanish the meat is known as beef. Ask for meat in Colombia and they will not ask for what kind, but will automatically give you beef. You can tell they have still the accent. That is offensive to you? 🤨🙄.... Maybe try and be understanding to other spanish speakers instead of posting comments like this.
