What made this show great, it wasn’t always just going into other planets but you had to frequently deal with the earth based drama of the military governments politics corruption and then when aliens get thrown into the mix it gives it its own flavour
@mikehatten57382 жыл бұрын
That’s why the later seasons weren’t as good in someways the NID, the trust, Kinsey, billionaires that figured out the program and so on added a nice layer of realism to the show. There would be people that would want to benefit from the technology and have the usual human ambitions of money and power. After season 5-6 it became about purely exploring and fighting alienz non stop. A couple episodes went off those rails but none of the earth politics storylines were left.

@@Ragitsu I definitely agree with you but as a whole it helped the show come off less sci-fi and more grounded in realism. Not everyone on earth would care about exploring or saving others some would just want it to benefit them. Gave earth more nuance. Maybourne was not an evil person. Misguided perhaps, uninformed without a doubt, self important for sure, but not evil. If you really watch, he was always trying to do what he honestly thought was best to insure the safety and security his country and his planet, even if he had to bend the rules to do it. Okay, maybe his country first, but he was career military. As the series went on, he grew, learned and eventually he and Jack even became reluctant allies when the need arose. Jack even seemed to give Maybourne a certain grudging respect, if not complete trust, at the end. That change and growth was why Maybourne was one of my favorite semi-regular characters in the series. As someone else posted, "He went from being the character you loved to hate to the character you hated to love."

In it's most basic form, the term Alien just means "someone who is not from here" It's why we call people illegally crossing national borders "illegal aliens". If you've ever seen the scifi comedy classic: Cone Heads, it's why the underlying joke of the entire movie is "we are illegal aliens". In every planet the SGC visits, the SG teams are the "aliens". Now, if you want to focus on the "not human" aspect of the word Alien, then it still applies. Teal'c isn't human. He's humanoid, sure, but not human. Jaffa have been so heavily modified over thousands of years that they are no longer the same species as us, so the term Alien would apply to both Teal'c and Junior.
