Stalkers and Chameleons are entirely different units. I think the list is missing some insane units like Daemonettes, Bloodletters and Chaos Warriors/Chosen, but every unit he included is fairly well justified IMO.

I agree with saurus, they are broken in earlygame, they have armor and high weapon strength and very cheap and easy to recruit compared to another unit of same cost, 10k health and they have like almost 40 melee attack at 50%hp and 50 weapon strength. Recruit in tier 2 building

I always laugh when people say Skarsnick is hard to play, his campaign ain't difficult at all he beefs the gobbos up so hard making them incredibly strong, heck spend a little bit of scrap on his front line gobbos to give them skarsnick poison and everything they fight takes additional dmg over time making them capable of killing things well above their pay grade.

As a man who loves him some orcs, I am very partial to having me some black orcs. my late game army is usually nine black orcs, eight stone/river trolls, my lord, and the crown jewel of the force... a pair of Arachnorok spiders. I love races like the Orcs, Norsca, the lizard men, vampire counts, anyone that has a good mix of strong front line infantry and monsters so I can use good old fashioned brute force to bludgeon my way to a Victory. That said an army built around lots of cavalry can one, easily counter this build. and two, is much more strategically rewarding to successfully use.

I'd be happier if the Ogres got a rework. They've kinda sucked to play sense the game came out. I love them though, they are fun to play even if their mechanics make them hard to master. I mean, their realms of chaos campaign is hilarious. Its literally "Oi, lets go kill and bbq up a god bear!" and it just the most hilarious thing ever. Its like if Hangry was a fantasy race.

@@chrisyang6487 Honestly I prefer this buff (+20 armor to all Chorf infantry? Yes plz) over what the Sorcerer-Prophet brings to the table. You can always just recruit a daemonsmith instead (who, unlike the S-P, can repair your artillery too), plus without the Overseer all the Chorfs have for melee air support are the winged cows.

Nothing from the Warriors of Chaos, Daemons, or Norsca, even when their specialty is melee infantry. Limiting this list to 10 is impossible because of how many great melee infantry there are from all the factions in the game.

Well to be somewhat fair, while norsca's specialty is SUPPOSED to be melee infantry, their infantry is pretty darn weak once you get to mid game. They really really really depend almost wholly on their monsters.

This is a weird list man. Top 10 by what metric? I agree with you on the last 2, Ironbreakers and ironsworn are definitely top tier, and black orcs probably deserve to be on any melee list, but everything else makes no sense. No Khorne Units at all? THE melee faction? No chosen, the original kings of melee? No marauder Berserkers? No phoenix/silverin guard, Bladesingers, or even mistwalker units? Dwarf warriors are good but they're not "top 10", if you're making an efficiency list where is literally every tier 0/1 spearman? You included armoured kossars but not Tzar Guard (I prefer the guns myself but its a TOP 10)? You have 2 stalking infantry units when you said the point of this category is to hold the line, stalking/shock infantry does a different job. You started with a weapons team which is not melee infantry, so where are Sacred Kroxigors, Aspiring Champions, Stone trolls, Maneaters or Minotaurs which do the same thing but are much stronger. I don't understand how you're choosing your top 10, or half the units you picked. Price? Efficiency? Killing power? Staying power? Ease of access? Cool factor? Your favorite unit from each faction but only 10 factions?

I think the bestigors being on here was a good choice too, especially if using Kazrak who can give them stalk and vanguard deployment. Its always fun when the enemy brings ranged units who are useless because your army starts 3 feet away from them.

I mean, there's a bit (with Chaos Dwarfs especially) but overall Total Warhammer has had far less power creep than most AAA games. And given most people play singleplayer it doesn't really matter that much. There's so much BS in the AAA game industry these days, I really think we need to pick our battles or else all the criticism becomes white noise

Let's make a top 10 melee infantry list for campaign but let's not list Exalted demons, chosen, swordmasters, Bladesingers. Pretty weird how swordmasters and chosen beat infernal guard and didnt make it in. But crappy dwarf warriors are so "op" they are on the third place lmao. Where's the bladesingers? Where's the saurus of the lizardmen? Even Basic chaos warriors are better than what half of this list shows. But clearly dwarf warriors are so op on turn 1 that khorne apparently can't recruit bloodletters on turn 1 to shred them. Oh. He actually can recruit bloodletters on turn 1. Good luck killing op dwarf warriors though. Oh right. Wait a few turns and suddenly nasty skulkers enter the chat. Clearly not a counter to dwarfs btw

black orcs are a sleeper pick for singleplayer nowadays since they have extremely high hp and weapon strength, but low attack and defence stats. this is easily solved on the campaign with a variety of buffs, so what ends up happening is black orcs will win against anything thats not an LL. the only time ive ever had a wasted black orc unit was when i was fighting 2 weapons team stacks and grimgor was the last orc standing. still a fun match

Exaulted deamonettes are literally sisters of slaughter but better offensive stats. The have just as good of melee defense but shred through anything in prolonged melee combat

How the hell are Bladesingers not on this list? Very high magic attacks, very high speed. With that speed they can flank and even not flanking they can tear through Black Orks and other top tier units. Stats-wise, they are one of the best melee units in game period. I think they get overlooked because people use Wood Elf archers a lot. Yes, they are weak to missiles, but then so is almost everything else you listed. And Bladesingers are in an army that can easily handle enemy missile troops.

People are reading the title as best melee units stats wise, but he is ranking them in terms of utility and how useful they are in covering your weaknesses or synergizing with strengths. The best units stats wise can be found on spreadsheets

For the infernal ironsworn, there was one battle where I had to fight 2 and a half cathayan army stacks playing as the Legion of Azgorh. The half stack were coming in from a narrow entry point and I placed two infernal ironsworn to block the reinforcements. The ironsworn not only blocked that army, but repelled it.

Cathay jade warriors laugh at dwarf warriors, they have 25% charge defense with jade stance 100+ armor, tons of melee defense with harmony+ gate masters, are dirt fucking cheap having a very common auxiliary reduce their upkeep by 7% and also gate masters reducing their upkeep even further. And can last you the entire game, I'm at a campaign where my jade warriors with halberds are rocking 80 melee defense. Also wood elf wardancers with spears, physical resistance, charge defense/reflection, can get ok armor with tech tree/traits, can switch stances getting absurd missile resistance and if you need them to be more agressive you can swap their high melee defense for melee attack and armor piercing. Also they are fast complementing the wood elf skirmish potential very well, you can send your waywatchers/deepwoods in the front and having them trailing around to protect them from cav.

I like Saurus a lot, and they are so important to their faction. That said, I rather like the inclusion of Dwarf Warriors in the tough early game line infantry category. Saurus are great, but you pay for their greatness, and you have to wait a bit and pay more for shields. Dwarf Warriors are really quite cheap for how good they are, and come with shields from the get-go.

i keep forgetting these are base game units, with the amount of mods i have for my game wooo its a very close call but by the far the best front lines melee ive seen is Trajaans iron corps troops especially the great swords ones, they can keep enemies in place long after the enemy dies, having like at least 4 or maybe 2 of them in any army will make the enemy frontline quiver.

Im sorry but this list is absolute garbage. - No khorne units AT ALL, which is already funcking insanity. The exalted bloodletters mulch any infantry you throw at them and even chosen of khorne can do so heavy damage - Exalted plaguebearers completely missing, with their missiles and their insane tankyness - No saurus units, like who the fuck doesnt put saurus with shields in this list. Probably the best early game infantry, you can get the blessed versions and the buff them up to be absolute monsters with krokgar or gor-rok, super resistant, high meele stats and weapon strength and then they have that passive instincs that buffs them even more and detect any stalking units from miles away.

The list is absolutely appalling mate. You should rename this video to 'my favourite' or something along those lines. I get that you're making the point with unit tier, their role in a race army and theme into account but so many of these units are objectively mid. Armoured Kossars and Bestigors in particular are just underwhelming units that have their roles fulfilled to a superior degree by other units in their roster at similar tiers. Bestigors lose to Empire greatswords for gods sake!

Dwarf warriors just don't perform very well in all the campaigns I've used them in. Early battles they will be in tatters compared to slayers or just going mostly Quarrellers as Dwarfs.

Your not clear your are identifying these as the best 10 for the price point however even considering this your list is not at all accurate in my opinion, jade warriors are as cheap as chips and very tanks, particularly with ying/yang the out perform dwalf warriors in every way including having a silver rather than bronze shield, bestigors are one of the worst elite infantry and carnt go toe to toe with hardly anyone at the price Point, yes there quick but otgerwise not very good, chaos warriors of nurgle with flashy abundance are almost unkillable, no sword masters which can beat all other infantry one of one (non ROR) since they were buffed, they completely outclass black orks and bestigors and have some missile resistance, death runners are a fun unit but very micro intensive and very squishy if properly countered, no nasty skulkers which are nearly as good but much cheaper and early game?
