What I find amazing is that this is a high end price point and yet they use the cheap windows that don't get good air flow, the standard inefficient RV furnace, no built in inverter, and cheaped out on the bathroom by not having a folding sink, a plastic toilet, and hardly any bathroom storage. For the overall value and features the NuCamp 400 is superior IMHO at approx $30k and 500 lbs lower GVWR. The nest does have better counterspace and kitchen storage (the ushaped dinette floorplan) which is really due to not having a fixed bed. Particularly in light of how originally the nest was supposed to be a lighter and less expensive option compared to the other airstreams.

carla ifera, I don’t believe Airstream is actually marketing to you and your friends. Some folks are happy with sleeping in their converted van or pop up camper. That’s definitely not the market segment Airstream is targeting, they are targeting the customer that’s looking for a travel product that’s built to last, from a company that has attention to detail and utilizes high quality materials in their manufacturing process. It called “worth what paid for” or you get what you pay for. Happy camping!

I think this will be an enormous success for Airstream. I live in Europe and this reminds me of the Eriba travel trailer which everyone in Europe who has ever been to a campground will recognise, it has been such a popular trailer for decades. The market for this is massive in the USA. The amount of people with a car that will be able to tow this is huge and buying this would be far less than a class B motorhome. Also with the size of the yards (what we call gardens) is suburban US cities those people will be able to just put this somewhere in the yard. The interior is modern and will appeal particularly to urbanites. It contrasts with the interiors of many US RVs which are really old fashioned. I think that its shape and look is very friendly and will go a long way to reduce fears some might have of towing. It's fun and trendy and I think there is a huge market for it.

There will be some very stiff competition for these new Airsteam trailers! Mainly because of the price! For what their asking for these, you can get an amazing 25’ or so, with a slidout, ducted A/C, with a real walk around queen bed and more importantly a DRY BATH, with storage and sink. All for a LOT less money! With still a three season insulated heated tanks and aluminum composite construction! But you will need the available tow rating of at least 7,000 lbs. but with that come ROOM. and capacity.
@brighton_dude6 жыл бұрын
Well, you might be right, however my guess is that the Nest is aimed at a different market. I think that this is for urbanites who probably have a medium sized SUV. I am in Europe and one thing I notice is that the RVs made in the USA are not designed with urbanites in mind. They very often have interiors from the 1970s and they are huge. I suspect these are made for the rural population who have a lot of space to put things like that and have a very traditional taste in interiors. I have lived in New York City and the people I know who live there would, I think, consider the Nest, but I don't think they'd consider one of the RV's you mention.
@k.r.v.42196 жыл бұрын
brighton dude there is one other issue I did not bring up that had to do with price. That’s a little thing called excise tax! It like property taxes. Depending on the cost, you pay a percentage of the value to your local town/city. In N. Y. I’m sure it’s very high! I bet the first year of ownership in the rotten big Apple for a $35,000 RV will be in the neighborhoods $2,000! Just to own one! It makes no sense to me to spend almost three times as much as I did on my Forest River Cherokee Wolf Pup 16FQ, that has a walk around queen bed and dry bath! With A/C, all LED lights, heat and weighs only 3,600 gross! With plenty of storage and as much room as a Nest. So I bought a travel trailer for just $13,000, then a new truck for under $30,000, that we’ve had now for two and a half years, of fun and adventure all over the east coast from Bangor ME, to Key West FL, and as far west as the Smokey Mountains and Texas Gulf Coast! The truck we brought is a 2016 Colorado Z71,4x4, V6,Ext Cab, that does very well! We averaged 15 mpg over our present 6,000 mile trip.

Wonderful trailer and informative walk-through. I have owned 2 fibreglass eggs (boler and Surf-Side), a Chinook fiberglass motorhome, and an Airstream. Love them all for different reasons. The only one that freaks me out in hail storms is the Airstream. The Nest is a winner! Most of the newer fiberglass trailers are far too heavy on the fake oak interiors. This one is light are bright like a boler. The laminated surfaces will wipe up easily. Oh this is sweet!! Love the aqua upholstery!

We stopped to see the Nest at a local dealer. Several things didn't sit well. First is the rear entry. If you are under the awning and it is raining, you have to go out in the rain to get in. The awning without the extra legs is pretty flimsy. In older, small campsites, you usually back the trailer right up to the brush. This would make getting in hard. The screen door would not last five seconds if you had a dog. When you come in the trailer, the refrigerator is on the left side. It does not run on propane! The microwave is on the floor, very impractical. I'm 6'1" and the table height is way too high. With the roof mount airconditioner and skylights, there is no room for solar panels. The front storage box only has one 20lb propane tank. But it does have a portable solar panel connector (but where are you going to store 2-3 100 watt solar panels?). There was no stone guard in the front. There is limited exterior storage. The spare tire is under the trailer. Getting under the trailer on the highway with a blow out would be "fun". The look and the quality of the trailer are great.

I like Wally Byum's original design. It has kind of an art deco industrial design with function. In these trailers the UV rays will break down the fiberglass. Fiberglass is not as easy to repair as aluminum.

Thank you for watching. We believe the NEST to be just as durable or better than other fiberglass shell style trailers that are on the market and have proved themselves over the last 40 years.
@charlevoix4186 жыл бұрын
I totally disagree with you: sailboats and powerboats are fiberglass and last for decades with minimal care and a light compound job every five or ten years, gelcoat can be easily repaired and paint, if you wish, forty years later. Fiberglass travel trailers keep a high resale value. Aluminum is fading , whitening under the sun. The underbelly of the Nest is covered by fiberglass, much better than other aluminum Airstream.

Patrick, I hope you get a paycheck from Airstream. I'm betting you're responsible for a bunch of sales! Always knowledgeable. Always thorough.

With no LP option on the refrigerator, how long will the refrigerator run on battery if I'm dry camping with no hookups?
@colonialairstream6 жыл бұрын
I would estimate 2-3 day.

Great overview/walk-through as always!! Would be great to have one video that compares the Sport to this one... similar in price...fiberglass versus Airstream traditional aluminum build.

I will do more than that when it comes time to buy my next Airstream Interstate... learned about you guys AFTER I had purchased the current Interstate that I have. (2018 Interstate TB with Air Ride)... looking to change when the new Sprinter platform comes out to get it all... Air ride, self-leveling suspension, and 4x4... Thank you again for so many informative videos!!

Looks good. Why not put the white on the upper area for light reflection and the colors on the bottom..which would be the opposite of what you're showing here..?

not cool enough to be this expensive. Way better options for the money out there.

I hope Airstream considers AC/DC compressor fridges across all of their travel trailers! They work better and have more interior capacity for a given external dimension.

I agree.

As always a great review of the Airstream brand. My only problem is with your videographer. You are talking about a feature and the video is just below what you're talking about. It seems as though you haven't talked to each other about what you want in the picture.

Bill, thank you for watching. We had a tough time with this one and the small space filming.
