I'm having issues with colour coding, it won't assign a block of colour, only a coloured circle before the event text?

I finally figured out what you may be referring to here - I apologize that I didn't understand previously. I believe you may be looking at the month view in Google Calendar. That will only show the circle. If you move to week or day view, you'll see the full colored blocks. I hope that helps!

It didn't say how to sum up one type of even (like personal)

Thank you for your question. That's a great point - unfortunately, you cannot search in google calendar by color, so I'm not sure that you can sum up one type of event in that way. You could get around that by always using a key word(s) within your event titles, such as "Personal - Lunch with Suzie" or "Meeting with Bob - Project ABC". Then you could search the key word(s) to sum up that type of event. I hope that helps!
