Color Guard Basics

Major Paul Ramirez from the Colorado Air National Guard teaches our Troop 184 scouts the basics of Color Guard using the EDGE method, explaining, demonstrating, guiding, and enabling. Items such as starting with the left foot, give commands like "color guard - halt" on the heel strike so there is adequate reaction time, what is the role of the guards, where the US flag is positioned, and much more!

I appreciate the Major's attempt. USAF D&C is slightly different from Marine Corps D&C, which is what the Sea Scouts follow. Not everything was incorrect, the Major did well, but also, D&C is an enlisted specialty.

Hey, when you guys are doing this, tell the boy scouts to lean back and strut, because when you lean back you get a louder sound form the heel hitting the ground, and when you strut it looks better than keeping your hands by your side.

You must be a Marine. I always liked to watch Marines march. It's so much sharper than any other branch of service.

One thing I recommend is not to use "Right Pivot". When using this command, the US flag is in retreat. For the same outcome, use "LEFT Pivot" instead.

Ouch. This physically hurts me as i am in both Boy Scouts and AFJROTC. I am the color gaurd commander and have won several trophies at competitions with the JROTC and watching this is so hard because i can see every detail and little flaw with everything. I don't mean to be rude or mean, all im saying is keep going at it with discipline amd y'all will look super sharp 👍

Yeah lm in boy scouts and do flag ceremonies for court of honors, high school graduations, and flag retirement ceremonies. I am always trying to make sure my guys hit perfection. There are so many details to keep down though it can be tricky at times.

Clyde Cooper I know how you feel. And at the JROTC competitions, the judges will pick and harp on every little thing you did wrong. But its so much being yelled at 👍
