Color Theory for Makeup Artist | Using Primary Colors to Create Skin Tones Foundation & Concealer

When I learned this...it was a real aha moment for me. Ive bought so many different colors not realizing I could add the yellow or red or blue I needed to correct the undertones on clients. So I started practicing on myself, my palms, face and a few friend's to perfect their undertones and its helpful but I will admit also stressful when i have a client that I dont have the exact shade for. I have to take my time and create their shade...they always say things like "your really creating my color " all the while I'm dying inside 😂 praying to God that its right!!! I dont like doing it but I'm glad I have options instead of relying on concealer to save the day!

I remember as a kid if you mix all the primary colors you basically get brown. Then lighten or darken based on the skin tone you need.

Tysm ❤ I'm dark skinned. I don't really have a hard time finding foundation. The shade range goes two to three shades darker than me before the shades stop. But sometimes the foundation maybe to red or to yellow. Now I know how to do my own. ⚘

Yess this basically a break down of the color theory that artists pen paint and stuff and makeup artist understand everything goes back to red yellow blue and white maybe black but so say like if your deep skin olive and the foundation is too orange u can use a bit of blue and mix it in with bit of white a little can change the undertone I hope I explain it well it you tan deep or dark I need to get yellow red and white pigments and the darkest foundation shade of whatever band u used

The white helps to lighten to brown so you can make it the exact shade that you need. The more white you add, the lighter the brown is (for lighter skin tones)

skin tone shades are made up of a mix of primary colors! By mixing the right amounts of each primary color you can create your perfect custom color match foundation using basic cream or liquid makeup! That way you can adjust to tans, or winter time paleness without buying multiple shades of expensive foundation in store!
