Debi, thank you for being vulnerable in sharing your story. I'm sure opening up a brick and mortar business takes courage, tenacity, and many sleepless nights, something many of us admire but will never be brave enough to do. And then, there's your Dad. What an angel! If only every one of us could have an angel like him in our lives. Better yet...maybe each one of us can be that angel in someone else's life. Wishing you an abundance of blessings in your next journey. We'll be right here cheering for you!!! 💖

As a 57 yr old married,father/Grandfather of 6. I wonder how many other men out there have found that chalk painting and reconditioning of furniture is a rewarding and relaxing hobby. I had not ever worked with furniture until discovering this channel maybe 5-6 years ago. My favorite creation is a headboard I made for my daughter as a house warming gift out of an antique door. Just thought that I’d chime in as a male viewer that appreciates Debbie’s channel. I find inspiration in her words too!

Debbie this video brought tears to my eyes, the one main takeaway for me was that this was part of your journey all along, it helped you grow spiritually and redirected your purpose, guided you to where you were supposed to be all along, most important showed you that you are LOVED beyond words and are surrounded by those that bring true meaning into your life (your papa is AMAZING ♥️)…may you continue to find all that makes you happy and makes your heart smile, thank you for sharing your gift with the World♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

I love that chandelier too! I do regret that I didn't believe in myself at the time we were making the brushes. I made 2 of them but just never got the courage to mail them to you. I was afraid my brushes would end up on a live of you unboxing them. I have them both sitting on my craft shelf reminding me to have some confidence, allow others to offer constructive criticism, & to suck it up buttercup-always believe in your self. ❤

I just love you and can't wait to meet you one day. I was watching "The Chosen" a couple days ago and remembered you were in the episode of the sermon on the mountain. I tried to imagine just how that felt and I was so happy to know you were chosen too. You have been used so many times with your stories to anchor my soul, to encourage me and to put determination in my heart again. Your stories give me reflection on things in my life and I think of Jesus and the parables He told. You are such a blessing to me. Thank you. I cried when you told of your 78 year old dad doing that hard work for you, his precious daughter.

I’m so happy for you my dear friend! I’m so glad you are back “home” in Cedros and can look back at Encinitas and know that you’re right where you are supposed to be. I believe everything happens for a reason and had you not tried the larger space you may have been left with the lingering thought of “I should have” or “what if” but now you know for sure and that’s okay. Your father is amazing. Wishing him many more amazing years with you! 🙏🏼

Debbie, this video was amazing, and so what I needed to hear today. God uses people like you to uplift and inspire others. I lost my 20-year business during covid and suffered so many other set backs, I broke my back during my last move and lost my dad at the same time and two of my animals. So it's so heartwarming to see your dad in your videos and seeing him be your Savior in your time of need. Yesterday was my dad's birthday, and even though he isn't here, his calm healing nature completely overtook me when I normally would have lost it. My dad was an artist and I inherited his creative gene. After he died, writing and painting became two of my new passions. I've always had this gift but have not used it in 20 years. So thank you for all that you do. Watching your videos and hearing your stories always brightens my day. One of these days I would love to check out your store, I'm only an hour away. I love San Deigo and going down there when I had horses I was always down there, thats where I kept them.

11:00 pm I just now started watching you. I’ve seen you few times and loved what I saw but now I’m following you. Your dedication, focus and tenacity is amazing. I don’t know if I would have lasted that long but you hung in there. You were doing your best as if working for the Lord. God is faithful to those who love and trust Him and apparently you did. It was HIS timing. And that’s always perfect. Just keep trusting Him, stay in His Word and you will prosper though not without some road bumps as we are in a fallen world. I will pray for you that you stay on that path. ❤

Thank you for sharing. I've been going through a great deal of transistion since my husband died 3.5 years ago and I had to move from my home to a small older MFG home in a tiny town south of Portland. I've been sitting here for a couple days wondering if I did the right thing by buying this place. Just before I started watching your video I was questioning if I acted in haste and got myself in a pickle. I've worked hard to do this whole transition in step with the Lord, and here I am questioning things. I bought this when I realized I would finally have an art studio after 33 years of waiting for a place to work. I'm not moving a business, but trying to figure out what my life at 67 is supposed to look like and I'm a little lost right now. Your question at the end...am I doing this out of love...I'm taking that with me. So thanks Debbie. I'm glad we will be seeing more of you and your work. btw...your dad reminds me of my husband. He fixed everthing. God bless and here's to the best success as we walk forward with what God has for us. ~Patty~

Debi, I love all your videos but girl this one hit me right in the heart. Your Dad reminded me so much of mine. There wasn't anything my Dad couldn't do and he was right by my side supporting me in my accomplishments and my not so great moments. Sadly I lost him to cancer in 1995 and miss him terribly. I have followed you from afar, North Carolina, from your earliest yard sales videos. Your faith and stories have been a source of strength and motivation to me. Your journey is awe inspiring. I know the stress all too well that you were under and while at the time you may have felt like you made a huge mistake but as Bob Ross said, "We don't make mistakes, just happy accidents" Congratulations on your newly renovated store and I wish you much success in all that you do. Take care and "I'll see you in the next video."

You have been such a good part of my life. I’ve been watching you for years and have learned so much from you, not just about painting but also about life and being honest. Furniture painting has been the most fun project, and you probably don’t realize how inspirational your videos are. It’s hard to explain to others the joy in painting something old that could easily go in the trash, and it becomes uniquely yours, and you see beauty in every brush stroke and color. Thank you for telling us this painful story that brought you to a place of peace and happiness. You are the BEST, le meilleur, la mejor!

THANK YOU!!! I have been so curious why you moved after all that work on the new store. But I COMPLETELY understand! Bigger is not always better. It costs in so many ways. And as I have gotten older - it takes a toll on us (even though we have our young minds still!) but enjoyment and less stress is the Moto of our later season. Debi- this is far from a failure, it’s enlightenment to how you need to live a fuller life. So that trip to your young woman’s ‘dream’ of a bigger and busier store, was just not older Debis dream anymore. You have come full circle- back to what made you happier. BRAVO for listening to your soul- you’re back home.

Debi you are such a bright light in this crazy world! I'm thankful to you, your entire family, & everyone else who were "Shipwrecked" here in internet land thru the hardest & uncertain years of Covid. You built a beautiful store & I loved watching your progress as it came to life. I wished I could've gotten to see it in person. Thats a small regret in my life but you got to do something that you had wanted. You built it. People came...now you checked it off of your list & should have zero regrets!! You did it & did it well. So well that it took you away from your real loves like creating new projects & awesome videoes. Now you know where to refocus. With God's love & your dads handiwork you are back to being that business owner who loves to share & create...that same girl we all tune in for & are inspired by! I'm happy to have been peeking In the windows while watching you inspire everyone in different ways. Much love to you! I will blindly follow you on ANY adventure you take us on & be thankful!! PS, I think your dad went to Cedros while u were out of town to guarantee that no "plumbers crack" showed up in a video!!LOL XOXO

Oh love. I feel it. it's a lot. I think, the cost of a big mission in life sometimes is quite dear. You really inspired so many people, and bringing colour and leading people back to an independence in their creativity, it's no small mission in a world that wants to automate, and take people away from themselves. I don't think you made any mistakes. You did you, awesomely. The name DIY says it all. Everyone wants independence, but it does cost, is the reality. Still, to me, it's everything. it's hannginng on to your soul. You did something immense. Wishing you all the help.

You have a great support group. My mother on the other hand said I couldn't do a business and that gave me the energy to prove her wrong , which I did to prove her wrong. People like that will either tear you down or....make you work like a dog to make a business great, which I did. I finally ran out of steam 13 years later and told the people that I was closing , they were sad and one lady sad....but I proved to myself that I am not a person that fails. You keep up the work that makes you happy and you will be great! I am watching you girl.

I too started my business with high hopes, moving from one location to another, at first it made a slight profit! But as times got hard not enough business came in, I even got a part time job (how’s that for working to support a failing shop) I even rented out bedroom’s in my apartment! Seeking wisdom from God, my vision cleared and I was led to my true passion and became a social worker, with a side of arts and crafts vendor shows (as a creative outlet) Blessed and joy filled days!

Debi, I love you and the way you trust God to lead you. Your bigger store looked beautiful and wonderful and it is good that you had that experience so you would be able to know for sure what was really most important to you and to be able to remember how much you appreciate your smaller store. I feel like I understand how you must feel. In 2013 we moved from a very small cramped house with no garage for a family of 4 to a house double the size with tons of storage space a big garage & a pool. We got a good deal on it & It seemed like a dream come true (at first) and it was fun to decorate and fill up with all the projects and things I could never do in the small house. But slowly the dream faded as so many things were wrong with the house that the inspection did not find. We spent the price we paid for the house again just fixing big things over the last 8 years and still have alot of work that needs to be done, not to mention the time it takes to really clean it well and maintain it. I miss my small cozy house and I miss my lower taxes and insurance & bills and i miss not being stressed over all of it. But I never would have known how good the small house was if I hadn't moved here. Now I really realize all that stuff just doesn't matter. I would rather have the time to spend doing things I enjoy instead of cleaning the house or take more trips instead of paying the higher taxes. But I also know that God put me here not only to realize what is really important but also so I would have room for the kids to still be here while finishing college and so I would have the room for my elderly mother to live with us once it got difficult for her to live alone especially since now she has dementia and I am her caregiver. So for that I am thankful for this big expensive to maintain pain in the butt house... lol. But one day when I no longer need this many bedrooms I will be so happy to go back to a small house. Anyway- Your dad is a wonderful man and it is so sweet that he fixed the plumbing for you. That makes your new (old) store even that much more special. I met you in Texas at the workshop in Boerne and you told me you would be praying for me & my mom. & I want you to know that meant so much to me, I already loved you just from your videos but after meeting you and talking to you in person and seeing for myself how kind, sweet and what a beautiful person you are in real life it just made my heart happy. God's love and his light shine through you and it is a blessing to those around you. Thank you for being so honest and vulnerable and sharing your life with us, you bring so much hope to those of us who watch you. God bless you & if I ever travel to California visiting your store wherever it is will be at the top of my list of things I want to do!

Like is full of possibilities and life lessons. If you hadn't moved, what would you have learned by it? You reached for your goal and achieved it and succeeded, but you saw the sacrifices that had to be made to maintain it and for you it was a prison. You were successful but unhappy. Your dad fixing your plumbing helped you to go back to a more manageable life and through this lesson you learned your strengths as well as your weaknesses. You are happier in A smaller shop where you have better control of everything you enjoy. You don't learn, if you don't try. Your happiness and health is the most important thing in your life.Luckily you could go back to your little shop and both shops were a blessing. You just were given a life lesson and you learned what you needed to know. Keep being happy and creative.

What a great lesson you learned. You would have always wondered "should I? Shouldn't I?" Now you know.. the hard way of course. I wish I'd achieved half of what you have. I think you have a much better idea of where your future lies now. Good luck Debi 💖
