Hi! I found out recently by accident that leaving the stone or seed to dry with the outer skin on for a couple of weeks, it does shrink with out cracking by the middle. That way it enables you to carve the whole seed. I love your carvings BTW, awesome workmanship. Cheers! [EDIT: you've got a sweet voice, it gave me the ASMRs]

vonsopas Hii! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and the kind words❤️ That’s a good news for people who want to carve the whole dry seed! I remove the outer skin at first simply because the it becomes too hard to carve when it dries out, and also that could speed up the drying process. But with a bit more strength or powerful tools, the dry whole seed is definitely a great material for carving! Thanks so much for letting me know🙏🏻

@ZaZaChiaChia4 жыл бұрын
Gunther Thomas Hi! I live in the U.K. and the seeds usually would dry completely in about a week. It would depends on the humidity of the place, so it is different everywhere. Unfortunately, in my experience, if the place has high humidity and temperature, it might be harder to dry naturally before the fungi gets it. I heard some people would try baking in low temperature in the oven, or using some kind of drying machine, but I haven’t tried it myself. Hope this would help and good luck with everything:)

Have you tried using a dehydrator to garden the seeds? It to harden them after carving
@ZaZaChiaChia3 жыл бұрын
I haven’t try to use dehydrator yet, because it’s quite easy to dry the seed naturally in the U.K., and I don’t mind the waiting. But using a dehydrator would be a good way to dry the seeds in a humid place. If you’re thinking about using that, remember to dry it slowly, because the seeds might crack if drying too fast :)

Ive done this to a couple of seeds now and i was just wondering, do you know how long it takes until you can actually start carving them? Most of the ones i have that are about 2 weeks old seem pretty sturdy right now, but i dont wanna risk it!
@ZaZaChiaChia6 жыл бұрын
Hi! It's great to know that your seeds dries well! The most important reason for drying the seed is to carve tiny details, if you find it still soft inside, just don't do details before it becomes as hard as wood. But I think you can carve them at any time, usually mine can start carving after drying for a week or less. Sometimes I like to carve while it's half dried, cause it's easier to cut for a bigger part. You can cut the shape first while it's still soft, or just do the carving and drying at the same time, play with it and you will find out more:)
@TheLazysketcher6 жыл бұрын
@@ZaZaChiaChia Ive got a followup question: Is it necessary to peel the outer skin off at all? As i said, ive done this to quite a few seeds now and theyve all tried perfectly, ive even made a couple of turtles out of them. But the ones with the skin still on seem to dry MUCH slower.
@ZaZaChiaChia6 жыл бұрын
@@TheLazysketcher You are right! For me, peeling off the skin is to fasten the process of drying, and get rid of the stone hard surface. Sometimes it's like they will never dry.... But I guess peeling off the skin is not the only way to dry it, I'd like to keep my mind open. As you already know, there can be many different design by keeping or not keeping the skin, or peel just a little bit.

I just have one question : did you do something before filming the video? when I peeled all the skin (with my knife), the seed beecame orange

@@ivanjovicic6685 Ohhh! I’m not sure what is available in Serbia, but any natural oil can bring up the colour of the seed and provide some protection from moisture. Lots of artists are also using boiled linseed oil, Danish oil, or the mixture of oil and wax. If you can find a wood working shop, they might have something similar, most of the oils for wood can also use on avocado seed. Good luck!!

Syrnichek Kofe Hi. That also happened to me once. That might cause by drying too fast, or big temperature change. Every seeds are unique and have different moisture content, so it’s hard to know how exactly it will turn out after drying. Sadly, I can't live forever, so I can't be sure that it can last forever. But I think it's just like wooden stuffs, keep it well then it could stay in a good condition, and it also could rot if being buried in the soil. :)
