Very nice hunt. Really mild prime country to hunt in. Good choice of music too. Thanks for sharing

Hunted San Juan, outside Durango 2 yrs ago. steep is understatement! Flat Tops were perfect after that thrill. Plus snow, no snow 2017. TY for comments, hope this motivates others to get the full experience before ‘pack strings’ ‘might’ become days gone by. BTW, lived in WY couple years tremendous state.

@@cuttin77 Yup, we've both Elk hunted in rough country and at my age I prefer a hunt like this. LOL. Here's some videos you might enjoy. Happy Trails. Hunted by durango by lizardhead. That terrain is no joke! Nice video

bucke13 thanks, San Juan’s were tough, steep and non existent trail. Brother in law got lucky he & camp guide spent night upon ridge. Tagged out with long shot when elk moved to creek from steep ridge. At sunrise. NO snow so nothing to push them down. Interesting side note. Horses got loose we found them along Hermosa creek. Guns out of scabbards so assumed all was well. They walked with lead rope dragging along slope with minimal trail. Long ways. His 1st elk hunt, 1st elk. That’s. What makes elk hunting a venture with lots of twists and turns. Never know what happens next. But what an experience .

It's a special place. Didn't do much Valle Vidal, NM or San Juans, did better this time with pictures. It was perfect all around, they are not all like that. Good luck when that day comes for you!

thanks for the comment! Flat tops are an amazing wilderness, sad to hear this year winter kill was horrific, mother nature can be cruel. the video shows a small part of the big area. Aspen glow along with the snow made it a winter wonderland. Got lucky, bull came out just as I got to my rock perch, so hit the 19% success rate. It was 350 plus yds, down hill. Hope it motivates others to hit the woods! Headin to Wy this year for Brutus. Maybe after all these years, can finally get a rug! The elk mount beats a picture or painting any day, get to see him daily and all its memories. Great memories that all can have, hope this video will motivate others!

I noticed a Bison in one of your frames, uh where is that, I know of no one running Bison up here?

This is a ranch east of Westcliffe CO. Comments say Sangre to Flat top. Intro pictures are in Sangre's. Hope this explains. Navajo bought this place recently, mainly all buffalo now, no cattle.
@46rambo495 жыл бұрын
@@cuttin77 yeah that must be the Wolf Springs spread, used to raise some fine Arabians there till the Aussie Owner got sick and old. Sad to see the Navajo buy up most of it, that's a good clean herd.

that was nice , might be in that area this season for archery

Thanks, what I saw is what you see, no fancy editing, just handheld camera, go pro and posted! Flat tops a special place, just about ideal. Had a pack in, San Juans 2 yrs before, now that is rough country, with little success. So pick your hunt well! only 2 in my camp out of 6 of us tagged out, elk hunting as you might know, not easy! But what a way to live the outdoor life, nature at its best fills you with memories.
@SpearingBow-Man2 жыл бұрын
@@cuttin77 very nice, 2/6 is not bad success with elk. guessing by the weather this was rifle. I gotta figure out archery first lol. Nature is a fill on its own, the rest is a bonus and a draw to pull you into the mountain

Are you going back to the flat top wilderness area this year?
@cuttin772 жыл бұрын
No, used up my ‘limited’ points for elk in 2018 for the flat tops, but would go back in a second. Been geese, pheasant, mule deer last couple years, now bear on private land 2022.

How was the deer population when you were there
@cuttin772 жыл бұрын
We were at 10,000 ft. Deep snow up high, most critters had started to move down, so to your question, didn’t see any, but down low they were around.
