I have fond memories of the Stockshow in my youth ,early 1960s Dad took Hereford Bull's, it was awesome. The Rodeo was really something. I still have items that I bought there. 😊

I have lived outside of Paonia , on the Western Slope, for a number of years, where the population of ALL kinds of stock (and farms) outnumbers people. Thank God! And been on the Western Slope for many more years. I have thought about going to the NWSS for some time...but Denver...in January? I have better things to do. Like - take care of all my horses, feed the turkeys...and maybe sit in the sun. And there ain't no traffic..

Cathy Carpenter sure does/did hold a lot of titles, maybe just one or two was adequate for her screen title. We used to have a livestock show in the small backwater town of my youth in the United Kingdom, back in the 1970s, but our show was more about the auction sales at the end of the week of the show, they had prizes and trophy’s for quite a lot of categories plus best in show, the farmers were obviously proud of their animals and it was a great week for the town, I don’t think that, even if their the space in the market place, our farmers would have been up for wrangling cows or riding bulls etc, in fact most of them would probably have put their backs out just looking at a fire breathing, angry, and hungry bull. I think that the USA doesn’t know how or want to do anything on a small scale, if you are going to have a show then it’s big, and something for everyone to enjoy. I can imagine that it was a huge scandal over the grand champion being a fake, but the boot polish seller was laughing all the way to the bank. I know that there are professional “rodeo” cowboys in America but I was wondering if any off them are not from farming/rancher families and didn’t know a bull from a cow before they became rodeo contests?.??????, would be amusing if the best of the best came from somewhere where there aren’t many trees, let alone bulls and bucking broncos, somewhere like New York!!!!!!!!!. Another fascinating look at American lifestyles and social life, thanks for sharing it with us all. 😀👍🇬🇧🏴

When I was on a dairy farm, a cow called 'red' always led the way into the holding pen when the cows would go unto the dairy parlor.
