For Coloradoans and especially Denverites -- probably folks from Leadville, too -- the Tabors were larger than life. They were better known by far than the Kardashians (to whom they are compared in the video) because of what they represented -- all three -- and how they at first gained but then lost it. They were not merely famous for being famous. Such a humane story: longing, work, luck, victory, lust, financial setbacks and slow defeat. Then to top it off, Baby Doe spends her last years in utter poverty, guarding the mine that had brought Horace and her great wealth and finally freezing to death because she was loyal to Horace's death-bed admonition. It's far more moving than the most heart-wrenching opera because it's true. Quick personal story: my mother's father was a bank guard 80 - 90 years ago at Denver's Colorado National Bank. He said that Baby Doe would sometimes shuffle in. Her once beautiful clothes reflected her then-strained circumstances. Everyone knew her by sight. And of course everyone remembered Horace's last words to her: "Don't sell the Matchless!"

“ and a nag.” 😆 I don’t know why but I laughed when I heard him say that. Also why doesn’t EVERY SINGLE STATE have an incredible outlet like Rocky Mountain PBS? Dude for real “Colorado Experience” is solid. I wish Utah would do a similar series. Except it might all be about Mormon history which I’ve gotten my fill of already.

I've been to Leadville, the Tabor Opera house and the Matchless Mine. I sat in the shack while a lady talked about Baby Doe and the history of the Matchless. The Matchless shack has a creepy feel to it. There are spirits there, two of them are Baby Doe and someone she was involved with in life. I don't know who it was was but he is very strong and stays with her there in the shack. I never felt the presence of Horace, but Baby Doe and this other man were there the day I was there. I could feel their presence, in the corner of the shack.

I'm grateful to grow up in Leadville even if after the mining bust. Amazing people up there even now even if not the Jetset. My 4th grade teacher told us stories of her actually meeting Baby Doe and how she died. I was held as a baby by Leadville's last cathouse Madame (so my dad said). It really was 4ft of snow , uphill both ways.

Hey, when one of Pete's bloodlines enters the room, there is nothing like it. It's like a warm blanket with a buzz on a cold and clammy rainy day, and you will say and do anything not to leave it, and that's how he gets you. From there he will take you down into the sad story of his werewolf ancestry beset with sadness. And from there, you will be addicted to its depression, and accused by Soviets of being a traitor if you ever leave him. It's all Pete.

What is it, that the women in Colorado, look 30 years older then they are? I travel nursed through Denver, etc, in the 1990's and women STILL looked old & used up, then. Geez.....wear face cream or something. It is a dry climate, invest in face cream. Sad....to be ONLY known for your lavish lifestyle, rather then being intelligent, honorable, etc.

Ego and Pride becomes the Fall. Do not be mistaken: God's Bible is Truth. Do the right thing and blessings come when you give the LORD respect. It says many times in the Bible that wise man will be blessed, but a sinner/deceiver/liar will be scorned. Maybe not even in this life...but in the next.

I once had a job associate who was good looking, attracted pretty women like bees to honey, worked hard only to lose his butt messing around with other women. When he divorced a very good woman friend of our family, he lost it all but she got it all. This guy was a millionaire but infidelity was his downfall. As a side note he wouldn't give me the time of day.

sounds like my dad! always "his" money and then he "hides" it by giving it to a son that is a double bankrupt, never worked, and didn't ask for reports. It disappeared! sounds like these guys have little software "burps" in their brain, something like software that doesn't quite work sometimes, and that makes them vulnerable. And they don't take advice or ask for guidance, either!
