Moved to Colorado Springs from Hawaii when I was 18. If I can't have the ocean, might as well have the mountains. Started my family here and havent regretted one bit of moving. Fun fact: Its a city ordinance that Developers cannot build above certain height restriction so their buildings do not block the view of Pikes Peak.

That cute little law means there is almost no affordable housing near downtown and all the new development takes place way out east. Most of the new neighborhoods built in the last 5-10 years don't have water rights that last the duration of the mortgage and many are already falling apart. The real estate developers have the city council in their pocket and the conservative/libertarian government means there is almost no oversight of this unchecked real estate development. If you are fortunate like me and can own a house near downtown it is a lovely town but I fear that the population will drop significantly in the next decade when the new neighborhoods either fall apart or have to start paying to have their water trucked in.

100% agree. Anyone not affiliated with either the military, a school, or a church is kinda left to the wayside. Not to mention there is a serious lack of housing due to uneven real estate development. Colorado Springs is a super cool case study in unchecked real estate development. Much of the new neighborhoods in the far east side of the city are actively falling apart and don't even have water rights as long as most of the mortgages! I grew up in the springs, went back in the mid 90s =( never went back since. Beautiful no doubt, but the economy and crime seemed to have ruined that area and traffic is horrible there, I almost moved back when my work offered me to relocate anywhere to work from home back in 2014 but after researching it, no matter how beautiful it is I just couldn't go there. Maybe it has gotten better, hopefully, but the Springs always had a hit or miss economy and for a long time just seemed stuck in time no progress and then the Californians invaded and it just seemed to go down hill even more. Lot's of homeless, laws weren't being enforced, crime was rampant, drugs same. Also, the downtown area has always seemed to be stuck in time, like I said though maybe it has gotten better, maybe one day I will go revisit where I went as a kid with friends I am sure it has to have changed some. A couple of great things I will never forget though are Pikes Peak every morning, going to Garden of the Gods and the Airforce Academy. A few of the bad things I will always remember is Downtown and how empty it was and run down, Old Colorado City and Manitou Springs when I was growing up there were drug and sex offender places a lot of crime in those areas, some cool stuff used to be an arcade in Manitou Springs that was cool to go visit and Meadow Muffins and a ice cream place near a art gallery and park in Old Colorado City, but seriously you had to watch your back in those areas even as a kid weirdos hung out in those areas.

I've unfortunately been stuck here for 11 years now. I am a genuinely, nice individual. From my perspective, 80% of the people from the Colorado springs area (El Paso County) suck. They are two-faced, entitled, scam artist, bullies. They play safely in numbers. Cliques with mob-like mentalities, rich, middle-class or poor. It doesn't matter. This place has literally tore me down so much, that I don't even go out much anymore. I really hate to say all of this. It is the complete truth though. Haters galore here. They hate and judge so much that they literally increase their homeless population by not being decent to one another. Then they turn a blind eye to the homeless community or try to get rid of them. I am a native of Colorado. I lived in other states growing up as well. This place is the worst place that I have ever experienced in my life. I am stuck here for another year or so. It is HELL! Beautiful hell. Naturally beautiful, but the people poison it all with their narcissistic, sociopath, entitled ways. I really wished that I could say something good about this place, truly, I do. But, I can't. When I do leave, I will never come back here. I warn anyone who is thinking about coming here. Don't do it. Puebloand Denver are the same. Or worse. The schools suck. Bullies everywhere. Adults and their children alike. Most people are armed and ready for a fight. They all have something to prove. A very scary place to live with a nice view of the Rockies. Not worth it. Not even to visit. This is a hate state with knuckleheads and badasses everywhere. A great number of infamous shootings have happened in Colorado as well. Stem school shootings, movie theater shootings, Planned Parenthood shooting, Colombine, etc, etc, etc. Beautiful Hell indeed.
