Today is the day I ditch the bear canister! After 15 days and nearly 150 miles hiked, I think it’s time to say goodbye, for now. We made our way into Twin Lakes, where Bob- the owner of the Twin Lakes General Store, generously allowed me to store my bear canister for the remainder of my trip. I thought I would be able to push forward, but after a few comments from other hikers- I really was ready to “lighten my load”. We’d hitch to Buena Vista (the first of many visits) and I’d purchase a Ursak in town, and we’d hitch back to the general store in Twin Lakes and continue with our thru hike. We met Bobby at the Twin Lakes store and he’d join our little group to Salida.
The hike out of Twin Lakes was tough, especially with a full pack and resupply. The climb over Hope Pass was worse, but that’s to be expected. Hope Pass ended up being one of my favorite passes the entire trail. We’d make our way down the pass and up to Lake Ann that evening and one of the only lakes we’d camp nearby the entire trail, as well. Tomorrow, we climb Lake Ann pass and from the views from camp- I’m pretty sure it’s going to be a long morning.
