Jay, saw your pic with Chief Bass as I was purusing LinkedIn. Jo and I were stationed together at the 24 STS in the late 90s. I was going through green team and she was a SrA in Ops. I would have never guessed she was the one to do what she's done. Impressive. On the other end of the spectrum, most of us knew Colon-Lopez would make it pretty high up. Anyway, hope you are well. It was cool to see your pic with Jo.

@@EarlyRiser71 Great to hear from you, brother! Yes indeed…Jo has and will continue to do great things. Her and I weren’t in the compound at the same time, but we’ve worked together a lot over the past ten years or so. Was lucky to work closely with CZ too! I hope you and yours are well, brother. Life is good here!

I just finished Early Riser's book, "Pushing North." It's an awesome read, and I highly suggest it to anyone that is considering a thru hike. The mental part is the challenge, and the suggestions in the book will greatly increase your chances of success. It's not just an account of his hike; it's a primer on mental side of hiking and life in general. It's a fun read, but it's also loaded with information that has already had a positive effect on my daily life.

Hi ER. Have watched your AT and Foothills Trail videos, enjoyed each playlist. Hoping to watch the Long Trail series as well. As for this one - very nicely done - both in hiking and filming. I love the way you combined your comments with a lot of views of what you saw! I've been hiking since the 70s, and now that I'm 70 - hoping to keep going. However, I'll need to keep the daily distance below 20 miles... 🙂 Also, I understand you are a military Vet - thanks for your service, and respect from a Navy Submarine Vet. God Bless to you and your family!

So debating doing it again this year, but the other direction. The AZT is next on my wish list, but hard to get done in the month I can take off from work. The CT's views ruined me. It will be hard to ever hike out here in the east. 🤘🕓

Congratulations on completing your CT Journey. Your videography and narration and weaving it all together has never been better. The background music as well has been great. Awesome views, everything is so BIG out there. The Elk were cool too! I seriously enjoy watching and following your journeys not just for the fun and excitement, but to know that I am going to be taken to a new place and handed some new information. I hope your return home was safe. Whats next? The upper peninsula, Camino, Mount du Blanc Arizona Trail, or the little known, New England Trail??Would love to hear your follow up thoughts and as usual love hearing about the mental processes and work that we need to do to prepare for and complete a long hike. Keep up the great work and perhaps our paths will cross.

ER, Thanks for your incredible book, ‘Pushing North’. I’m a veteran, planning my 2023 AT thru-hike attempt, and I can truly say that the most important part of my prep, more than what backpack, tent, quilt- was how to prepare my mind. ‘Pushing North’ is the perfect guide. Thanks and Happy Trails!

12:02 those were our llamas in the field along Elk Creek! This was my first exposure to the CT. I’m hooked. I feel a strong pull to attempt the thru hike in 2024. I just finished your book “Pushing North…”. I’m 53 and a bit worried about being able to physically complete the trail. More so, I’m concerned if I can mentally handle the thru hike. Your book encouraged me and provided tools to help strengthen my rider to properly guide the elephant. Thank you!

Those were your llamas? How cool is that? I was in pretty rough shape after that decent and was just looking for a camp spot. The llamas made me smile and took my mind off the pain train for a minute. The trail is hard, but doable. It's definitely worth trying. Start in Denver not in Durango. Thanks for giving Pushing North a shot! 🤘🕓
