Dr. Greaves obtained his Bachelor's degree and Medical Degree from McGill University, Montreal Canada. After residency training in Internal Medicine and Clinical Pharmacology at McGill University, he completed a fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee. He then served as a Visiting Scientist at the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, Georgia, before joining Howard University, Washington, DC, as Chief of Infectious Diseases and HIV/AIDS Clinical Research.
Prior to joining Merck Research Labs, he worked at Schering Plough Research Institute in the Infectious Diseases division with antifungals, antibiotics and antivirals. In his current role as a Distinguished Scientist at Merck, his primary research involves development of drugs for infectious diseases, primarily drugs for viral diseases.
