Oooo 18 colors to achieve the skin tone! They all blend well with each other 🤩. The circular motions definitely help make the skin look smooth! Layering is so fun with colored pencils! The type of colored pencils you used are perfect for layering 🙌🏻! You did so good creating the cheek! Highlighted area, shadows, skin tone all look AMAZING! 💖

Your pencil techniques are so precise and thoughtful. My efforts feel a lot more hamfisted, lol. I love how the portrait is coming along! I've also noticed how certain colours with the same name look considerably different between brands. Because that's always super helpful, haha.

I know what you mean because that’s me with watercolor. I just SPLASH and hope for the best or I muddy up detail areas by accident😂 and thank you!! Yeah I’m starting to think it’s not so bad to have multiple colored pencils sets because the colors don’t really overlap as much as you’d think - even the ones labeled the exact same!

Hi Alexis, in the future could you explain how you go about including skin pores on the face. For example do you include them as you build the layers or do you build a solid coverage of a base layer and then remove some pencil to create the appearance of pores, thanks 🙂

My most ridiculous mindset when I was a beginner whenever I spot a professional artist using Caran D'Ache or either Polychromos or both, the first thing that comes to my mind is that, they are capable of building smooth skin tones because they are using those beautiful and quality stuffs. I started to realize that I was wrong when I started to practice portraiting with Faber Castell Classics in the Red Box and the Caryola Colour Pencils being my favorite Starter Color Pencils (after seeing artists using it and still gets a good result for portraits). I am no longer using these student grade stuffs because of it's Weak Lightfast Issues.

Yeah it is more the technique vs the high quality supplies, but I will say that prismacolors were sooo much easier to blend than the crayolas I had used before at the beginning of my colored pencil journey. I had no technique back then though so it took me a while to learn how to even use the prismacolors lol
