On a perfect early fall day we launch just after sunrise in the Diamond DA62 from our home base in Erie, CO (KEIK), flying up to Leadville (KLXV) for the annual pancake breakfast put on by the local airport authority.
Lake County Airport, at 9934' MSL, is the highest airport in the country and is situated in the shadow of the highest peak in Colorado (as well as all the Rocky Mountains): Mt Elbert, 14,439'.
After a great feed with locals and other fly-in pilots, we take off from Leadville and head south past Twin Lakes and along the Collegiate range before heading west to Cottonwood Pass and then north along the Sawatch Range toward the Maroon Bells and Pyramid Peak. From there we hop over to Crested Butte and then up to Marble, where we make a circuit and an upwind pass down the backcountry airstrip just outside town. I counted ten planes tied down along the grass strip, by far the largest contingent of visiting aircraft I have ever seen there. The DA62 is not a backcountry kind of plane, so we did not add to their number.
McClure Pass is next, then Redstone Historic District and Mt Sopris. From there we made a beeline home to Erie Municipal (KEIK), landing before 10:00 am.

At nearly an hour's running time, this is one of a series of aerial #slowvideo productions on my channel. It's the first of my aerial videos set to music; I'd appreciate any feedback and/or suggestions you may have.
